This women has been off for 2 days this week because her boyfriend is diabetic (he always been diabetic and always will be). She gets these days off as compassionate leave, now i don't mind that so much as she has been in the hospital with him for the 2 days. However she has has 7 days off this year on compassionate leave, that's on top off what is now 9 sick days and also her 22 days leave has given her 38 days off this year, 38.

I'm not saying i'm a saint but this takes the piss and is really annoying people, the sick thing is that she has walked in this morning and is really annoyed that she has 68 emails. So f***ing what, most of them are from people in the office telling her what parts of her work they have covered for her.

f***ing DIN.

You have to be careful Chappers.

Diabetes can be extremely bad. It isn't just a case of taking the tablets or injections. People can lose their sight or have to have amputations due to gangrein (sp) in severe cases.

I can understand what you're saying but unless you know the extent of his disease, you cannot really judge.

Fancy a bit of racism ? How about the Moslem I worked with who needed a two hour lunch break every day to go to the mosque ? I'd like to be able to say that he made up the time but as we were working on a remote site and thus unsupervised he didn't.

Oh, and naturally he took off all the relevent Moslem Holy Days (not as annual leave) as well as Christmas, Good Friday and Easter Monday.

Mind you I also worked with a Orthodox Jewish guy who had to take every Friday afternoon of so he could observe the Sabbath. For his working hours see above.

That should get you lot at it !

Im diabetic and there are situations where i may need to take time off work if say my blood sugars were all over the place. But there is little need for my other half to have a day off as well. Diabetes is a harsh disease but there is alot worse out there. If it is well controlled then you lead a normal life which i do. If its not controlled you may have problems - best for the them to get to there GP or a diabetic specialist (one of the best in the country is in brighton) and sort it out.

I find this fecking stupid. It makes us diabetics look ****. Give her a slap from me:(

Excatly, the amount of times i've heard her say that he went 'off on one' because he'd forgotten to take his insulin or because he'd been out drinking is silly.

If she has to sit in a hospital for 2 days with him at the drop of a that there has got to be something wrong with his situation.

Mikey without trivialising what you have typed, the fact that the guy has been in hospital for two days suggests that he has already been to his GP and probably specialist.

The reason I mentioned the extreme effects of diabetes is because I know of two people who were that bad despite being on medications and under their doctors.

My brother (also a diabetic) has been to hospital on numerous occasions. I know plenty of diabetics who look after themselves and plenty who don't. You are right in saying there are plenty of problems associated with the disease (especially people in there later years). Okay maybe ive been a bit unfair - we don't know the situation. But there are plenty of people who use diseases as an excuse (myself included!). And people do get pissed off with the fact that work is missed ESPECIALLY if it is not them that has the problem.

And as for those people who spend all day on internet message boards.....

Yes but some of us don't work (because we can't or don't need to).

Chappers, i've got people under my supervision who, for example: Take a month off due to stress because they cannot handle finishing at half 2 everyday to look after thier own child who has been in nursery all day. This may sound extremely stressful, but she lives at home with her parents who quite ofter look after the child in question.

When the kids sick, her parents "myseriously" cannot look after the kid, so she has to take the time off to look after him.

So, 4 weeks off with stress (looks after the kid anyway to save nursery fees), numerous days off sick for herself, non annual leave day to look after sick kid, and on top ot that, her yearly allocation of annual leave. What does that equate to? f*** KNOWS!

Its a hard life being a single mother, i understand that, but she lives at home with her parents, claims all the allowences under the sun (financially) and then totally abuses the system at work.

I realise that i will no doubt upset a few people, and there are a lot of points that i have written that will come under alot of abuse, but tough f***ing shit!! If these people don't wanna work for a living, then f*** off.

On another note, i have another member of staff who phones in sick if he is denied annual leave. He is denied annaul leave because there are too many staff off all ready, then phones in sick!! Its got to the point now where he gets any annual leave he wants, regardless of who is already off, just so he uses up hie annual leave, instead of claiming a sick day!! f***ing JOKE!!! And to cap that all off, another member of staff was denied a days leave after new year because there are too many people off, but this guy requests that day off two weeks later, then gets it due to the above reasons!!!

Now i don't normally rant, but this really fucks me off. It means more work the me, and for the other staff that are left, and it generally beats the shit out of staff morale when they are constantly asked to do extra!

Summary= f***ing JOKE!!

Rant over!

Robbo I agree entirely that is taking the mickey.

When I worked for the Electrcity company we were on a verbal warning for more than two absences a year or more than 4 days each one.

I had a written warning for having 3 operations in 18 months.
