In honour of the little man's seventieth birthday*, what's your favourite song from his forty years or so of material? Surely one of America's great songwriters. Let's praise someone great before they die!

*Yes, his birthday was actually yesterday but I only discovered this vital fact late last night...

6 posts and no one has mentioned the classic 'You Can Call Me Al'? It should be an automatic first pick for everyone.

'Bridge over troubled water' is a masterpiece. Pretty much all downhill from there on.

That was the perceived pinnacle though, some fantastic stuff in the years preceding it. Not a big fan of BOTW myself though

Sort of agree, yes. Plenty of notable highs BEFORE that. But as I say, downhill from there.

'America' is indeed a great tune, as for me, is 'Old Friends'

"7 o'clock news/Silent Night" from the S&G days. fantastic understated RAGE against the Vietnam War

"Diamonds on the soles of her shoes" from the solo stuff is probably just sneaking it at the mo.

But what a body of work!

And I believe that station was one of the Manchester ones, Salford.
