'Get.'

As in, 'can I get a ham and cheese sandwich please?'

No f***ing illiterate cretin. The word is 'have, not 'get'. Moron.

I use that all the time, chief.

Mine are 'fixtures', 'kanchelskis' and 'palarse'. f***ing goons.

The use of the word "close" together with "proximity".

Proximity means closeness, so there is absolutely no need to use the word close.

I must lead a sheltered life: I've never heard 'my bad' and I've only ever heard Germans say "I'll get a sandwich" (and that's because 'get' is what one uses in German in that situation).

My pet hates are IT buzzwords, especially solutions (products), utilise (use), environment (God knows what).

Ah, so you have a gripe about tautologies, which ought to be on a different thread. :)

Max, the mere fact that you use the word, 'get' allows me to rest my case about its moronic use. You illiterate fool.

However, although it's not an over-used, I have a gripe with the wrongly-used word 'enormity'. 'Ooh, I was thinking about the enormity of the building...' WRONG! Enormity means horror, and has nothing to do with size or extent.

That may be the case, but we're not German. Our Royal Family may be, but I'm not.

You wait until you get to marketing buzzwords. That'll really do your nut in.

In a pile of football shirts
At the company I work for they use the term "Value Engineering" which really gets on my tits. It sounds so serious, when all it means is "make it cheaper".

I beg to differ. Whilst enormity does mean horror/outrage etc, it can also mean vast/scale etc:p

Legend! Half the people on here use it to praise just about anyone. For me, this club has few true "Legends" perhapse Peter Ward and Mike Bamber, and a handfull of others like Frankie Howard from the old days.

Star - used to describe every youth team player, reserve team failure and dull journeyman pro.
e.g. ex Albion youth team star, A. Nobody signs for non-league non-entities.
It gets used for players that aren't even famous in their own house.

Hero - same thing applies.

Firemen are heroes not sportsmen.

I know: I was just pointing out that it wasn't a phrase I'd ever heard anyone but a German use..obviously I've never stood behind Chappers in the sandwich shop.

Depends if they are striking.

I work for a scottish company, and they have their own brand of words here. For example, OUTWITH (meaning 'outside') is very over used, as is TIMEOUSLY (meaning 'on time' or 'punctual').

But when you take the pi$$ of words like 'och', 'aye', 'wee' or 'Bells Scottish Premier' they get very defensive.

Oooh Alan would NOT like that!

'Can I get a houmus and gouda sarnie please?'

'Can I get it in a ciabatta?'

'Can I get some lettuce, onion and a bit of beetroot in there please?'

'Oooh can I get some back pepper please?'

I can see his face now.

Stationed at portland for my last year in the mob. The locals are very scary people ... the term in bred doesn't come close.

I was down in Weymouth for over year a while ago and had a girlfriend on Portland, they are a strange lot I agree. They seem to have eyes that are far to close together don't they ?
