Hot food - whether eaten on premises or taken away - was always subject to VAT at standard rate at most retail outlets. This change is about bringing hot takeaway food from supermarkets (previously zero-rated; a VAT anomaly) into line with takeaway outlets.

You can eat your Amex pies where you like, and it will still be subject to VAT at Standard Rate.

After the series ended, a BBC Engineer remembered whilst setting up a phone-in switch board for the then PM Jim Callaghan a phone rang, and when he picked it up a voice said 'Is that the Swap Shop?'.

The number was then changed to the memorable 01 811 8055.

But as you say, he did say yes, which after a lifetime of pain caused by (failed) politicians in and around the Albion, was a welcome change.

no he didn't, he cocked it up. by the time that was all sorted out Hazel Blears gave us a new ground

What I think you are forgetting is that after the 1st Inquiry he went against the 1st Inquiry Inspectors recommendations and asked for a 2nd Inquiry which had to judge Falmer against other sites. He could have taken the easy option of just turning down the stadium application considered at the 1st Inquiry; in which case we would have been well and truly f***ed.

So whether you think he is a working class hero, complete buffoon or somewhere in the middle he probably did, through that one decision, save our arses.
