We already celebrated what they won when they won. Why do it again? And what qualifies a bunch of lardy TV viewers to decide who is the best of these "sporting heroes"?

Because they are the fans who buy the tickets at the sporting venues or watch the sports on TV and cheer these people on. You obviously don't like sport much. What are you doing on a football forum?

Watching any awards show (sports, Oscars, etc.) is one of the most excruciating experiences you on TV.

I agree - there is something so incredibly, horribly smug about it. I can't bear to watch it.
