Doesn’t feel like an upgrade on Geno.

Think they are similar so depends on contract too. We'll see how much Geno will get in Vegas but he reportedly wanted 40-45m AAV from Seattle.

Darnold will be on around 33m. Add to that he is younger and we received a pick for Geno and I'll take that. Still hope we'll draft a QB this or next year though. Darnold's contract is also tradeable if we do get a rookie QB and we'll want to move on from him in a year (assuming he won't totally suck this season).

In other news, Fields to NYJ.

Free agent Justin Fields and the New York Jets reached agreement on a two-year, $40 million deal that includes $30 million guaranteed, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Monday.

But regardless of contracts, i really don’t think he is as good ability wise, had a good season at Vikings but faded towards the end, almost playing at the same level as elsewhere during his career.

Fields is good signing for Jets (wish it had been the Giants).

Former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Sam Darnold reached agreement today on a three-year, $100.5 million contract including $55 million guaranteed with the Seattle Seahawks. Seattle has its successor to Geno Smith.

Darnold is now reunited with new Seahawks OC Klint Kubiak, whom he previously worked with in San Francisco. -- Adam Schefter, NFL insider
Insane. Sam has a great agent.

He's still down tens of millions after his last 2 games. Thanks again Sam...

Well, he was poor for the Jets and Panthers, where QBs usually struggle. It's possible he has improved since working under Shanahan/Kubiak (who will now be his OC too) in San Francisco two years ago.

And I'm happy for that. Would also take him having a bad game in playoff as long as he gets us there. I see him as a bridge QB rather than someone who will bring us to the promised land anyway.

Bridge for who though?

Nope, not really. It probably saves us a bit of money, and frees up some cap space, but it’s hard to feel this is really a step forward.

Kenny Pickett to the Browns for Dorian Thompson-Robinson and a 5th rd draft pick.
The backup QB merry-go-round continues in Cleveland. I doubt Watson will be ready to start the season, so Pickett would be slotting in at #1, I assume. No idea if Jameis is back, nor do I really care tbh. On the plus side, Pickett should be an upgrade on DTR, who just hasn't shown hes capable at NFL level.
Whats that old saying about doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting the outcome to be different?

Should rename the Browns the Groundhogs

Good to see Khalil Mack get another years deal over in LA with the Chargers. Hes still playing at a very solid level.
If they can also get Najee Harris' potential unlocked (always felt he never quite broke out in Pittsburgh, even though he had 4 consecutive 1k seasons), they will be looking to make another good run at the post season next year.

Laremy Tunsil to the Commanders. Holy cow, so excited for this. Left Tackle is one of the hardest positions to fill and we just went out and got a good one. Not bothered about the price, players this good are going to cost you and we would not get an equivalent in the draft.

Kinlaw a much morę underwhelming signing, but he had his best statistical year last year and we aren't the basket case that the Jets were last year. Peters clearly likes him as he drafted him in SF so I'll just wait and see how this one plays out and trust the process.

I'm stoked with how my Detroit Lions signed DJ Reed from the Jets at a cheaper price, immediately after we let Carlton Davis go to the Patriots. Extending some of our defensive depth players also helps, though hopefully we don't need to call up practice squad players for extended periods like we did after getting steamrollered by the injury bug.

Though extending Davis would've been ideal, the Pats offered a bigger contract and with his injury history at time, I'm glad he got the bag and we got someone slightly better at a cheaper price.

Whichever QB we will draft this or next year.
I wouldn’t pin your hopes on this years crop.
Perhaps Cam Ward, Dart maybe Sanders, but the last two are reaches at an NFL level, and Ward is unlikely to eclipse Geno or even Darnold (IMO)

Is Archie Manning in the following years?

Even then Seattle are a perennial strong franchise, and never strike me as a team that will tank….. so it’ll be a case of trading up, which feels like a risky strategy.

Really interesting times for yourself. and other Seattle fans…..

That feels like a really good acquisition.
Could easily help them move forward.
