Apparently the Synod has three houses to make sure that GODS Will always wins rather than any one interested party.

So...it's gods will innit. End of discussion.

It's because they can't move diagonally

They can when they see a bargain on the sale rail, and, at amazing speed.

1 Timothy 2:12

That will be from the famously misogynistic Paul, then.

Jesus Christ actually spent a lot of his time and effort rebelling against the over-zealous and narrow interpretation of the rules by the then religious authorities. Plus cela change, plus c'est la meme chose.... or to translate, the more things change, the more they remain the same.

Although here, ironically, it is the laity people who voted against.

If the church lived in the real world they would not exist!

So not surprising they voted the way they did really.

If you opened your eyes and abandoned your prejudices, you might realise tha the Church does live in the real world, doing things like helping people who need help.

Religion aside some churches are well worth visiting for their amazing architecture alone.

There are two kinds of people with faith in my experience.

Those whose faith is based on fear, and those whose faith is based on love.

So do a lot of non-religious people - it's just they don't need to believe in fairy tales to do so. This vote makes the church look even more ridiculous than they already did.

I do like a visit to church or cathedral. Often they're built on high ground and are taller than the surrounding buildings so you can get great views from them. The sacre couer is good for this and also the Giralda attached to the cathedral in Seville ( though of course thats the minaret from the mosque which originally stood on the site.

When did religion become an equal opportunity employer ffs? When the wimmin first pestered their way into the priesthood, giving us chaps an endless succession of munters and closets to look at in every debate on ludicrous religions role in a secular society, they were allowed to on the basis that they wouldn't try for the top jobs with the biggest and most ridiculous hats.

Fast forward to now...they have nagged and nagged at the poor old clerics and bishops until they have just given in out of sheer desperation to stop the endless earache.

Now GOD has made his position clear in a FREE VOTE they don't like it and will keep on haranguing the social inadequates at the top of the church until the voting system is changed and they get their own way.

In days of yore we would be burning these harridans at the stake or pulling their arms off. Tsk.

How on earth do they get round employment laws ? Bishops are paid so are therefore employed and covered by anti-discrimination laws.

Religious faith does not have to live in the "real world". It purports to set the tone and give leadership to the secular world, not be a follower of fashion or contemporary thought.

NB. It claims to speak for God. It claims (at least sometimes!) to follow the laws of God and in the Christian church they are found in The Bible. The Bible says women should not lead the congregation....nuff said.

That is the theory . In practice they have followed the traits of the day by endorsing slavery in the 18th Cent. and any war that the politicians want to fight..

Are they right on this issue ? Who should care? The C of E is a minority group and if they don't like it they can leave...

NB I am not a follower !
