Nani, Gomes and THAT Goal

Oh dear.

The officials are sure to be rested next week or better yet, relegated to the football league.

Edit: Ok, just realised that he hadn't stopped play.

Clear handball by Nani, but always play to the

Not shown on that footage, but Nani does handball when he goes down. The linesman at fault for not flagging that.

Unfortunate for Gomes, assuming the referee had called a halt to play.

Moral of the story is that you must, must play to the whistle.

Don't see why it's "controversial" - it's a dozy piece of goalkeeping.

Shades of Kit Napier against Chesterfield and George Parris against someone (I've forgotten who)

Nani did the 'old grabbing the ball' when he was 'brought down' assuming he had won his penalty and his handball went unpenalised.

Just watched it on MOTD, penalty rightly not given after a bit of a tangle of legs, Nani puts his hand on the ball and Gomes picks the ball up, ref has absolutely no reason to stop play.

Gomes on the other hand! God knows whats going on in his head! Chucks the ball on the floor and then does absolutely nothing despite having a bout 30 seconds to clear it.

The ref did nothing wrong at all. Sure it was handball, but Spurs had the ball and the ref just waved play-on. Well done ref for sticking by the decision.

Don't really have a problem with it, should play to the whistle.

What really f*cks me off is the way Nani rolled around like a toddler having a tantrum when he didn't get the penalty. Gomez should've just stamped on his head and put him out of his misery, f*ckin kid!

Strange how all the Spurs players were told to sod off as the ref talked to the lino, but tosser Ferdinand was not only allowed to listen to their discussion, he also had his say in it.
Rule for Man Utd and a rule for all the others, disgaceful.

The referee told the players to move away, everyone obeyed except Ferdinand. Had I been the ref, Ferdinand would have been seeing yellow.

Referee allowed play to continue as Spurs had the advantage and when that didnt work out should have restarted with the free kick for handball. Commonsense but refs arent supposed to use that.
Ferdinand should not have been allowed to take part in the conversation. Absolutely ridiculous. Allows it to appear to be one rule for Man U and another for everyone else.
Clattenburg doesnt seem to have any clarity of thought in those circumstances.

The advantage rule isn't like in rugby, it doesn't go on for more than a couple of seconds. Gomes is clearly at fault for thinking it was a free kick, told from childhood to play to the whistle. And the comment above about coming from an offside position, are you serious???
