Virgo was on £1500 a week (according to NUTS) and that was after he was reasonably established.

Isn't the first pro contract we offer £250 a week? Wasn't Zamora on about £600 at first.

Gatting may command more than £250 a week as he is nearer the first team than the others but not £1500!

I'd expect a youth player turned pro to be on no more than £1,000 a week.

To pay Gatting £78K a year means total cost to the club of £87K with Employers Class 1 NI. That's over 200 season tickets.

Age 23-24 £61,650
Age 25-26 £67,600

Age 31-32 £87,000
Age 33+ £72,000

I think it goes without saying that we are way below the Championship average. 2,400 would be way below average (about 50%). We also know that all the players have wage reductions in their contract following relegation. If 2,400 is correct, which I doubt, then he won't be offered that much for next season if we keep him. 1,400 max I would have thought

Gatting 1,500? Bollox!

Well said

I think I can remember Race on here last year saying (and I'm paraphrasing) that there might be a gap of reality between what footballers are on and what they say they are on. A fitting health warning for this thread.

I have been quoted a figure of the average wage at the Albion from someone who probably knows and it's quite low in the big scheme of things.

Having said that it feels "about right" to me which makes you wonder what other clubs are paying.

I don't know what was finally agreed, but Joe Gatting turned down the Albion's first Contract offer which was £1,500 a week.
I afraid I find that a bit unlikely.

I don't know your connections with the club, and they could well be much better than mine. However, if you excuse the old chestnut 'I know a bloke who knows a bloke...' line, but I know a bloke who knows a bloke connected with the Albion. And his connections are very good, and his information pretty sound.

And, if what he says is true, Gatts was offered nothing like that. Nor, after negotiatoins, did he finally agree to anything like that. But I could be wrong, and my who knows a bloke who knows a bloke could be wrong as well.

whether any player earns £15 or £1500 per week I do not feel that we, because we buy tickets, have the right of an opinion and to discuss it on here.

What, I feel we do have a right to is to critisise the decision to pay the player any money if we feel the wage whatever it may be could be better spent on another player. i.e when we were playing Paul Kitson whatever he earnt could have been spent better. One could say the same about the players that MM has loaned out now that they are due back with us.
