Downing Street making it up as they go along. No-one is sure whether they need to go to work tomorrow or not.

Can you work from home?

If YES, stay the **** at home.
If NO;

Are you a key worker?
If YES, go to work whilst adhering to social distancing.
If NO, stay the **** at home.

If you own a pair of shoes, the reasons for needing to go to Sports Direct are as follows:

1) There are none, stay the **** home.

What is the answer to the first 'No' (for non-key workers)?

Govt at 9pm: Stay at home
Govt at 10.30pm: Go to work

What a mess.

If the answer to the first question is 'No', then answer the follow-up question.

Your employer has relief through various schemes which they can claim.
You as an employee can claim.

There should be very few occupations whose (responsible) businesses demand their full workforce at the moment.

You can't deny that it's confusing, to say the least, to say at 9pm that ONLY key workers can go in, and then at 10.30pm to say ANYONE who can't work from home can go in.

There will be plenty of workplaces expecting staff to turn up. And plenty of workers who feel they are expected to turn up.

The official advice is now: 'You may leave home to go to work' (if not possible to work from home).

It's a complete shambles.

Read the tweet above. The government changed its mind in the space of 90 mins.

Really?

The person updating their twitter getting it wrong doesn’t mean the government are changing their mind.

I don’t like the Tories either but they are following scientific advice all through this crisis. Do you seriously believe they’re changing their policy an hour between tweets or is it they tweeted it wrong the first time?

What is more likely.

It is NOT forcing companies to close. It is up to them to determine whether what they do is 'essential'.

Your boss expects you to come in.

What do you do?

Mike Ashley is keeping Sports Direct open. It is not an essential service. If you refused to go in, you could be sacked.

Clear?

Unless I misheard they ARE forcing shops to close.

Sports Direct stores will NOT be kept open as it is not a store selling essential goods.

It’s really quite simple. Stay the F at home. No tube, no buses, no picnics.

Or basically this:

Can you work from home?

If YES, stay the **** at home.
If NO;

Are you a key worker?
If YES, go to work whilst adhering to social distancing.
If NO, stay the **** at home.

9pm: only key workers go in
10.30pm everyone can go in except those who can work from home

How the f**k are people to know what's expected? It's a massive communication failure.

This is the current advice:

I refer you to my previous answer.

There is nothing confusing here.

Granted whoever runs their twitter account cocked up... but it should be eminently obvious to all to avoid going out unless absolutely necessary.

Even a moron should understand.

Only two completely different messages.

You work in a factory. Wake up in the morning think 'I should stay home'

Boss rings up expecting you to come in and says the official government advice (on its website) says you can go in to work if you aren't able to work from home.

What do you do?

It's hugely ambiguous.

But if all the kebab shops, curry houses and Chineses closed there wouldn't be enough food in the greengrocers and supermarkets to go round. Don't forget some people live off takeaways.

We're heading home today and I have been trying to order home delivery or click and collect for the past week with no success. I'm not sure what is going to change to allow us to get anything

We've got no food at all in the house so if the kebab shop is closed we're in deep s**t

I assume many of us believe this could have been handled better but much they are having to do is totally on the hoof, everything is unprecedented and with the most enormous ramifications

Cut them some slack .... I can hear my ex boss 'be part of the solution and not add to the problem'. Yes there's tons of ambiguity but we should be able to figure some of this for ourselves while they work on the detail

It's not difficult. You know if you should go to work or not tomorrow. Ambiguity is no defence. If you shouldn't, then don't. You know it makes sense.
Yes, my boss says I am expected in work tomorrow. No ambiguity. He has wangled a laughable key worker status for us.
