Doug Loft signs 18 month contract.

Magoo says "Hopefully he'll break into first team during his 18 months"

Well you can never tell, hopefully he will adapt well. Worth a chance anyway. Doubt he's on much money.

Magoo actually said he didn't want to put pressure on him by labelling him a first team player as he still has a lot to learn. Fair enough.

From the bowels of the Bodleian library, a recently discovered scrap of papyrus, thought to be a fragment from Plato's lost work, The Seagulls:

SOCRATES: The club is, for the foreseeable future, going to have to basically buy lottery tickets -- untested kids for short change on the way up, and OAP types on a free on the way back down. Sometimes they pan out, sometimes they don't.

SUPPORTER: But Socrates, no sane team with dosh accumulates personnel this way.

SOCRATES: But BHA accumulates personnel this way. So, Supporter, best of Athenian youth, what may we may conclude?

SUPPORTER: BHA have no dosh, or BHA are no sane team.

Albion today signed former Chelsea schoolboy Doug Loft following a successful one-week trial with the Seagulls.

The 19-year-old attacking midfielder put pen-to-paper on an 18-month deal in Mark McGhee's office at Withdean prior to the 2-1 win over Leeds.

Loft was spotted playing for Hastings by Albion reserve team coach Dean White, and impressed for Albion's reserves in midweek against Reading.

McGhee clearly believes the youngster has a lot of potential. He told Seagulls World, "He's a young player who has shown really well in training and in reserve games and we've given him an opportunity."

"We've given him an 18-month contract and he needs now to prove to us that he is a player, and that he's worthy of a longer and more serious contract than he signed today.

"We have high hopes for him. He's a midfield player with energy who gets forward, a little bit like Dean Hammond. He's one for the future."

With the ink barely dry on his contract, Loft told Seagulls World, "I'm delighted to be here and can't wait to get going and try to get in the first team as quickly as I can."
