Hughes does not help himself though. I have heard all about his good work and new leaf stuff, but that f***ing celebration, the way he plays up to stick, his stupid f***ing potato face, and the fact he shaves his head to hide that he is a ginger means he would be hated even if he hadnt murdered anyone.

We need to replace our two gingers we released this summer. But if he is going to hide his Gingerness, then there is no f***ing point!

Pun intended?

If I'm honest, no. But looking back it was quite a good one.

I do not think that there is any question about his ability to score goals at this level I think that the only doubt is regarding his age and acceptance of being a squad player and on what wage plus the moral issue of his conviction.

As regards his conviction he has done his time and who are we to again judge him. As regards the rest he may want big wages and not be prepared to be on the bench so it remains an unanswered question for RS to decide the correct answer.

Doing time does not absolve you of the crime you committ. As far as judging him goes, anyone can. At the end of the day, most of us could and possibly have, been called up for jury service so you could end up judging someone exactly like Hughes.

Id LOVE to have a 20+ goals a season player, no matter who it was!!

All the top teams have that player and thats what we need!

Nice to know there are some albion fans who are morally bankrupt. What if the person he had killed had been a member of your family. No doubt you could still cheer him provided he scored the goals. How sad.

Does anybody remember the Coventry game in our first year in the championship at the Withdean? Seem to remember him being pony up top and throwing a paddy leading the Albion faithful to sing 'What a waste of money...' he really was a knob. He spent the rest of the game fouling Brighton players and gesturing to the crowd.

Odd that that sticks in my mind rather than the hit-and-run. If he did sign I doubt that there would be a surge in Hughes shirt sales at the new club shop.

.

He has already been tried and punished by the system and we are not there to re judge him for his crime but on his ability as a player. This would be the foremost thoughts of any supporter if he scored the goals, which secured our promotion that does not mean that we condone or forget what he ha done in the past but that we are prepared to give him another chance to be a member of society and show remorse for his past misdemeanours.

Hand on heart, would you have happily employed someone that has commited a heinous crime, in your pub (ex-pub)? When there are potentially other candidates out there. Despite his, relatively, impressive record last season, there must be an absolute reason why Oldham want rid of him. Wasn't he involved in a scuffle on a club evening? That might be part of the reason why Oldham have decided not to renew their interest in him.

Not really but them I am basing my opinion on his ability or otherwise to put the ball in the 'onion bag' rather than on any moral grounds. If there are others as good about at the same price or cheaper then I would go for one of them.

I like to see myself as a fair and generous person, but despite the fact he has 'done his time', the whole issue of running away from the scene bugs me. Thinking entirely of himself before the victims of the crash he caused, does not sit easy with me. He could have stayed and helped the injured parties, but he ran. He destroyed a family. I would not want him to be part of the club and if he was, then I would not go and watch Brighton. Winning is not the be all and end all as far as I am concerned.

Can we abuse him every game :D

Certainly not if he wears the stripes , unlike at Oldham when we called him a bald headed cunt , sung of his enjoyment in being bummed in the prison showers and being a wanker.

I know he's served his time, I know he's a proven goalscorer but I'd rather not have him play for us.

Footballers are role models for kiddies, especially strikers. The thought of my 2 asking for his name on the back of their Albion tops?

*shudder*

I'm not sure I agree. Obviously what he did was morally hideous. But he was punished by the law and has the right to try and redeem his life.

Presumably no one would object to him trying to resume a trade as a bricklayer, or a shop manager or an investment banker - so why not as a footballer? It just happens to be what he does.

And if you accept he has the right to work, why not work for us if he's good enough. Or are you saying that if you owned your own firm you would never employ an ex-prisoner?

He's been punished for his crime (though his victim's family might have different opinion) maybe but he's still got a thuggish chav public image regardless. So no, I wouldn't choose to employe him especially when being a footballer it's always a gamble. I'd just gamble on someone who's got equal or better prospects and is a whole lot more respectable. Nothing wrong with that. There are many alternatives to Lee Hughes in this world.

I feel sorry for Ben and his family when it appears their grandad has no moral code. Yes, he has been punished by the system but he still committed the crime. As for stating any supporter would have goals as their foremost thoughts then count me out. I wouldn't cheer for goals he scored.
