Got a Sony Bravia 32 inch from Sainsburys just after Xmas. Absolutely superb.

I noticed in the local Sony Shop (I live in Pompey) that they have the same model for £297 at the moment, which is an absolute bargain.

Has intergrated freeview (which is very good and super easy to use) and is 1080p so fully HD ready.

Can't recommend it highly enough.

I did loads of research before buying mine, but never saw a 32 inch full HD set at that price - which model is it?

The one I bought from Sainsburys was the Sony KDL 32L4000 I think.

Not exactly sure what the one I saw in the sony shop was, but it was the slightly newer model.

Doesn't have the highest dynamic contrast ration of TV's out there (only 15000:1) but the picture is superb and FIFA09 on the Xbox looks simply amazing.

Sorry, but the L and the U range of Sony's usually sold at supermarkets are very, very good, but they are not Full HD (see my notes of caution posted above).
The native screen resolution is 720p so although it can accomodate a 1080p signal by downscaling it, it is not a full HD set.

Just gone through the same process and I took for ages to make my choice. I wont preach on brand as theres not much between most but you must go for:

FULL HD not HD ready,
100 Mhz impornat on an LCD if watch fast action or sport.
High contrast ration to get the blacks.

PS.. went for the Sony KDL 40W4500 and its the dogs bollux!

Quite happy with my Onn 19 incher with built in dvd and we get ch5. £120 sorted, quite funny when folk come over who obviously do have one of these home cinema monstrosities, you can see them almost trying to look around the side of the tv for more wasted space :)

Agreed that 100Hz processing is good (if done well). It stops that little football stuttering across the screen when hit at speed and in scenes where the camera pans, it keeps the fast moving background in focus.

Incidentally Sony now do 200Hz processing:ohmy:

Just a comment on how close you can sit to the TV set.

The better the TV, the closer you can sit to the set. Any TV that has to upscale or downscale will introduce artifacts into the picture that look unreal close up and encourage you to move further away.

Full HD TV fed a 1080i (TV receiver) or better still a 1080p (Blu ray) signal will have a picture like a moving photograph and you can sit much closer without it annoying you.

The problem with watching TV on a 42 inch screen is that after a while you think that the screen isn't all that big and a 52 inch screen is going to be the next A/V purchase.

For times like this I have a projector 90 inches is OK.

I must admit I didn't realise that, but for the money that I have paid for it the picture is still superb.

Next one will have to be a Full HD set then, as can't afford to lay out £750+ at this venture.

Very interesting information tho. Guess I am just lucky that the picture on mine happens to be excellent.

If you intend to use it for blu-ray you also need to make sure it can handle 24FPS( frames per second) for that true cinema feel
