Manchester City confirm that the FA has informed Kolo Toure that an ‘A-sample’ provided by him has tested positive for a specified substance.

As result of this, he has been suspended from participating in all first team and non-first team matches pending the outcome of the legal process.

There will be no further comment from the football club at this stage.

How long did Rio get banned for? Was it 9 months? Should be the same for Kolo. Does he still get paid while he's banned?

The difference is Rio failed to turn up for a drug test. Toure has FAILED his drug test. If no explanation then I believe its at least a 2 year ban.

Rio NEVER failed a drugs test though. If it's performance-enhancing then five years minimum, recreational drug ie cocaine - a year (something like Adrian Mutu served). Either way he's an absolute idiot for everything he's got at Manchester City.

As a lover of road cycling, (more than Soccerball).
I get a perverse pleasure from any sport, other than cycling, getting shat on by a cheating ba$tard, (that's if it's performance of course)

Assuming the "banned list of substances" is the same across all sports, then trust me, there are some incredibly innocuous substances on the list. He could be done for taking a simple cold cure over the counter, so let's hold fire on 5 year bans and docking City points shall we.

Yes, there is huge difference between a "banned substance" and a "specified substance".

There have been a number of cases just recently of sports people testing positive for a stimulant called Methylhexaneamine.

It's contained in a number of easily available high street nutritional and weight loss products which were assumed to be ok.

Sports organisations have had to put out warnings.
