England have won by 70 runs and leveled the series 1-1
when play started today it was anybody's game with South Africa
needing 139 runs to win with five wickets in hand
Kirtley was the first man to strike, clean bowling McKenzie
Pollock was bowled by Flintoff for a duck and when Andrew Hall
departed without scoring a run South Africa were down and out at
81 for 8
but Boucher and Paul Adams came up with a fighting partnership and
added 45 runs for the 9h wicket and once again the match was back
in the balance
Kirtley was brought back into the attack and he completed his first
5-for with the wicket of Adams
and finally Boucher (52) fell after a great innings, edging one
straight to Stewart, again of the bowling of James Kirtley
Kirtley finished off with six wickets, Anderson got two, Flintoff
and Harmison one each
Man of the Match: James Kirtley

One other Sussex stat.

Even if we got no points at all in our last four games, we can't be relegated now.

The only way is up.

Kirtley to win the series for England and Sussex to win the championship.

Don't know about anyone else, but I wish Kirtley WASN'T playing for England.

I would much prefer Sussex to win the Championship (it must be our best chance ever) and now we've lost our best fast bowler for a few games it's going to make it that much more difficult.

Personally I think this whole test squad / county thing is ludicrous. So a county has one or two international class players and loses them for most of the season to international duty. What the hell is the county supposed to do?

The solution in my view is a lot less international cricket during the cricket season. Five tests max. And during those matches no county games should be scheduled, just the one-day stuff.

That way the whole thing is a lot more fair and the county with the best players should have the best chance for the championship.

Any thoughts?

Typical!

Look North has just said 'Congratulations to Yorkshire's Michael Vaughan steering England to victory'

Not a mention of Kirtley at all in their report

No way, the county championship only exists to produce test match players. It makes no money and has to be subsidised by the money made from the test matches which is why we have 8 or 9 tests a year, if there were only 5 or less it would leave English cricket in financial trouble. The England team has to take priority over the county teams.
