Its All Too Beautiful
What was he like as a match day host?

If he was good at it, it's a pity he's not been kept on.

If he was not, then his 14 years of (well paid) employment as a player, are scarcely relevant.

Kerry was OK in the East Platinum, doing the quiz, raffle tickets at half time, comments on team selection, predictions of results, some, but rare anecdotes, he was pleasant and smiley. We have had a range of people doing it no one particularly outstanding. More of a past time for him than employment I would have said, but being a local boy maybe he felt part of what we are doing at the club.

This has been rehearsed so many times. He was that poor that he managed to impress managers of the quality of Micky Adams, Steve Coppell and Mark Mghee. But then I guess you are SAF posting under a pseudonym.

Who's saf?

He wasn't very good, my opinion and that of most others.

He earnt a good living by not being good.

Next you'll be saying crumplin was a legend. Another who spent most of the time shocking.

He was a joke figure.

Kerry Mayo is a top man and a true Albion legend.

I have no idea about the facts, but sometimes things in life piss you right off. Many people use social media to vent. I've had to stop myself on many an occasion from doing so and I'm sure many of you have.

Let's not all start slating one of the longest serving, loyal, nicest blokes ever to play for the Albion just because of a couple of tweets.

He's more than entitled to have his say if he's annoyed at something that's occurred, regardless of timing (I can't imagine it'll distract from Thursday somehow).

That said, without knowing what actually happened (which, as fans, we have no right to anyway) it'd be a bit daft to blame it on the 'commercialisation' of the club or, equally, Mayo himself.

It's a non-story really.

I would imagine that his contract to matchday host, was up at the end of the season.
The season has been extended by one match, the play off, and Kerry thought he would have another game as a host.
The club have said we dont need you to host tonight Kerry, midweek evening kick-off and on Sky, not many will stay late, so we can save a few quid. Oh, and by the way, sorry but there are no complimentary tckets going free.
So he is venting his anger on twitter. Sad really.

As for any suggestions that maybe 0.5% of tomorrows gate will know about this non-event, and it will unhinge our play-off hopes, what a load of Bollox.

How's the club at fault? They don't want him as a host any further so regrettably his employment has been terminated.

I am not going to start slating the guy over this but personally I do not feel he fits into the legend status ahead of many, many other players whom I believe would have been more prudent and circumspect about timing such comments bearing in mind their respect for the CLUB.

I've come back home.
There's still some who have it in for Paul Barber and will slag him and the club off at any and every excuse.

As far as I can tell he is villified for 4 reasons :

- some Canadian once wrote an article criticising him.
- he axed Gullys Girls ( real reasons clearly not given in my opinion ).
- he once admitted the fans are also the clubs customers.
- he is the evil one who caused the problems with Gus.

All of which ( to me ) is nonsense.

You forgot that he has also tried to turn a bloated, cash hemorrhaging club into a profit making, agile enterprise as per his bosses direction.

The ramifications of which annoyed the Dick knight / withdean old boys network.

(Twitter) storm in a tea cup.

However, I would like to echo Bozza - what Mayo did for this club in the past should never be forgotten. His service to the club shouldn't be in doubt and he'll still be a legend at the Albion when Paul Barber is just another CEO in the City or Premier League.

Also the only Ex-player I ever encountered on the top deck of the number 5 bus, on his way to Withdean.

As I understand it he was looking for help getting a ticket, for the team he supports. I suspect he has very few loyalty points and may not even be registered to purchase tickets. If this is the case he has little or no chance of going through the proper channels to obtain a ticket and there are plenty of people on Twitter who appreciate him enough to offer help. From the clubs point of view it probably makes sense to freshen up the club ambassadors and yes ex-players should not expect complimentary tickets, it just put him in an awkward situation. Still these days everyone seems to love a drama.

Can't stand people who ponce free tickets. especially when they claim to be a supporter of a club/team and can afford to buy their own ticket anyway.

Unbelievably naive. What do you think the kids parties are all about? There's nothing wrong with such a business focus, it is the only way to break even in a pretty dire business sector so everything has to be exploited, particularly the fans. However, to dig your head in the sand and say its nothing to do with chasing money and the premier league is very wide of the mark in my opinion.
Its all about the money, as it has to be when carrying the level of debt that the club is.

The fact that even within that the club still puts itself out is a minor miracle, and yet, for some, its still not enough.

Nail on head. Kerry has made himself look an idiot on Twiiter in my opinion. Needs to come into the real world of employment and accept that at times your services will no longer be required.

Burnt his bridges with the club no doubt and doing his best to burn bridges with some of the supporters that have always held him in high regards.

This is why I've never got involved in twitter, just had a quick look at his page and some of the reactionary tweets are completely embarrassing. I'm not going to side either way but it looks to me like, Kerry loses his job, Kerry posts on twitter he feels he's been harshly treating by the club, cue a barrage of tweets berating the club to massage his ego. If he releases full details and that isn't what happened I apologize.

I think it's a shame for both the people that he entertained. Probably the same two people he entertained when he was playing.

What a long pointless thread, are there not more important things going on right now. Kerry occasionally hosted our lounge and was not brilliant. Bob Booker was the best and great fun, Andy Rollings is positive and sticks to facts, Kerry unfortunately liked to give his opinion which was not always positive to the club. Not surprised he has been released. I am sure he will get over it.
