Out of interest, are any of those saying "too short" the same people who throw their hands up at the end of International tournaments saying that England must change, and start appreciating ball players rather than just big physical specimens.

Herein lies the problem for England ever changing.

re: the shortness issue. neither Barcelona or Swansea are playing in the Championship where the high ball is used more often.

Height isn't everything. Bridcutt often outjumps far taller players and some tall players (e.g. Crouch) can't seem to get more than 3 inches off the ground!

Not talking height but someone who can both tackle and ride a tackle and then choose between passing the ball out accurately or running with the ball and not losing it. We don't have one player who combines those skills and we desperately need someone because the other option, as we have seen, is to employ a forward coming deep and go with one less striker

This. Bridcutt is a PHENOMENAL headerer(er) of the ball for his height.

This... a powerhouse midfielder is THE most important signing we still need to make IMHO..

Razak should have been that man last year, but he was too naughty

Mceachran is a great player. Anyone who thinks he is NOT 'what we need' is deluded.

Still remember at Birmingham, when they brought zigic on to a chorus of "freeeeak!". We were horrified as bridcutt went over to mark him. The free kick got drifted in and bridcutt outjumped him and headed away. Amazing scenes.

You only need loads of tall players if man marking! With a zonal system you need a couple of big(ish) centre backs and one other player strong in the air (often a forward). No need at all for the CMs to be tall. Barca, Arsenal, Swansea et al let alone Spain show this. How many do Spain conceed from set peices and when they play big lump third rate nations?

Agreed. Quite often he would line-up for goal-kicks against beasts and he'd beat them to pretty much every ball.
