With yet more violence in Italy during a champions league game UEFA has to take action.
If it was an English club they would prob be banned from the champions league and UEFA cup for years, but again there will be nothing more than a fine I should think

They'll probably get quite a stern ticking off too.

It is certainly true that Italy has got away very lightly over the years. Ironically, it would appear that if your police force is a violent rabble looking for a scrap, then that's fine with UEFA. And if you're an Italian fan, that's fine too.

No-one's defending our muppets, just bit of equal treatment is what's required. Man Utd fans have related some terrible stories from Italy over the last ten years, but because everybody hates them they don't actually listen to what they had to say.

I am also very worried about tonight. We had papers full of 'reconciliation' pieces a week ago - but not from where they needed to be coming from, ie Juventus fans.

How would this country feel if 39 people had died in Istanbul in a match against Galatasary and they came here? I imagine emotions are running very high over there.

WSU, just below the seagull.
The Liverpool supporters that have travelled officially through the club should be ok.

Its all the ones that have gone there on there own steam are the ones that may experience some trouble.

Police have arrested six Juventus fans ahead of the Italian club's Champions League quarter-final against Liverpool.
A Liverpool fan was hit on the head with a bat on Tuesday evening at a Turin bar, police confirmed.

The supporter did not go to hospital and will watch the game at Stadio Delle Alpi, but the Juve fans were arrested for violence and possession of arms.

Elsewhere, tempers flared at a hotel when Juventus fans arrived, reportedly carrying bottles and a stick.

Words were exchanged, but no fighting occurred and the Juventus fans ran from the scene when the police arrived.

More than 900 officers will be on hand in the wake of Tuesday's fan trouble, which caused the AC Milan v Inter Milan quarter-final to be abandoned.

But Italian counter-terrorism chief Giuseppe Petronzi told BBC Radio Five Live that police were ready and prepared to deal with "the highest level of risk" in Turin.

"We have reason for concern, but I'm confident we can manage the situation," he added.

Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry has already urged his fans to be on their best behaviour.

"Every fan in Turin should remember they are an ambassador for the club," he said.

But fears about the quarter-final grew after Tuesday's trouble in Milan and also when a number of Juventus fans rejected Liverpool's first-leg apology for the Heysel disaster by turning their backs on it at Anfield.

A total of 39 people died during the 1985 European Cup final between the two sides.

And Petronzi acknowledged that threats of retaliation had appeared on the internet.

"We have paid a lot of attention to what they have written and now we must see if they want to do what they have written," he said.

"I have good reason to expect that this situation will not happen and if it does, we have the proper tools to avoid a dangerous situation for Liverpool fans or for Italian supporters."

Italian football expert James Richardson defended Turin's record, but said he expected Juve fans to throw things at the visiting supporters. Encouraging!

"There are specific towns in Italy where they have problems of violence, but Turin is not one of them," he said.

"One thing that is almost certain to happen is that Juventus fans will launch objects at the visiting supporters.

"If there is trouble at the Stadio Delle Alpi it usually boils down to flares being thrown towards the area where the visiting supporters have been quarantined by the police."

In the build-up to the game, Liverpool fans have been heeding police advice not to wear their club colours and to stay in designated areas.

And the sale of alcohol has also been banned for a 48-hour period.

Liverpool may have 3,000 fans in Turin and they have been advised not to buy tickets for Juve sections of the stadium.

Meanwhile, Otello Lorentini, founder and president of the Association for Victims of the Heysel disaster, believes the two clubs should arrange a friendly as a more fitting tribute.

"I want a friendly game to take place before the end of the year between Liverpool and Juventus in order to honour the victims of the Heysel tragedy," he said.

"This game would be a significant factor for us, a sign that the world hasn't forgotten."

Inter will get a ban for sure. they got banned for lesser scenes against Alaves in 2001, so reckon a three game ban.It was a campaign against the clubs owner more than against the result.

You can be absolutely sure that Turin tonight will see Liverpool fans getting the shit kicked out of them, pelted with coins, flares and lighters throughout the game. Then at some point the local plod will drop their visors, raise their batons and beat the crap out of any Liverpool fan in sight.

The pictures will all be of the "battle" between Liverpool gans and the Police, fans with blood all over their faces. To all the World it will look like the English have caused all this trouble.

In contrast to the "English Hooligans" in Turin, last nights attrocities at the San Siro will be forgotten, and we'll end up with as stern a warning as the Italian FA, or even worse.

Inter will have to play a couple of games behind closed doors, while England will be told that we will be thrown out of next summers World Cup if there is any repeat etc.

They will probably get a similar ban to Roma when Frisk got hit on the head by a coin. They played two games behind closed doors, when you get 60,000 - 70,000 to each home game thats a lot of gate receipts to do without.

But they don't get those sort of crowds for European games, unless they are playing other Italian sides. The way Inter's season is going they need to qualify for the league stage next season, so they will probably miss out of 2 attendances of about 15,000.

That's no punishment, but is probably what UEFA will dish out.

You have to remember though part of the problem is that England's national team fans are the major problem- the clubs arent bad at all. In Italy noone gives a shit and there's hardly ever violence at the games.

Oh fair enough then. In that case they deserve to get their heads kicked in by fans and police alike, they only have themselves to blame.

There's still some debate as to whether the 'Liverpool' fans at Hysel really were.
