Just been reading some reports on the Beeb website, one of the players is a teacher from Northern Ireland who took 7 months off work to become a professional cricketer until after the World Cup. The mix seems similar to football teams like San Marino, a teacher, postman, etc, etc.

If your son is any good at cricket then I hope he starts off with Sussex, as for national level, he was born in England so they should get first dibs.
