I cannot believe that the relative merits of left-wing/right wing extremists is really being debated here.

Extremism in any form is a bad thing. It is sociopathic, amoral and can carry with it a psychosis that leads to extreme (clue's in the question) expressions of violence. It doesn't matter if the extremism is religios, political or ethnic in its "value system" (ha ha). Nor does it matter if it is popular or dictatorial in its root; it remains A Bad Thing.

History, and lately NSC, is littered with examples.
