If people want to read more, I recommend Les Structures élémentaires de la parenté by the great Claude Lévi-Strauss.

Sounds interesting, I will have to check it out.

After my extensive studies on incest I believe there is a 33% chance the child will be handicapped. this appears to be reason enough for immediate family members not to have the sex. However I'm not sure why it is such a social taboo.

What I meant Hans my love was that I'm not sure of why it is a socail taboo in a societorial sense rather than a moral one. As in when did someone go, 'right thats it no more shagging your sister, its just wrong.'

Generally, that happens as their caravans hit the M23 southbound at Coulsdon

A mate of mine at Uni used to argue that apart from the biological there is no reason to prohibit incest. A few months later I meet his very fit sister.

"Incest and Exogamy" - Lesson Two.

Even in societies where it is the norm to marry your matrilateral cross-cousin, shagging your sister is wrong.

If everyone did it to the exclusion of other relationships, there would be no orderly way to ensure that property ever got re-distributed (and - don't forget - that is the main reason why marriage exists as an institution). The consequences would be ... warfare. And that's just wrong.

Ok. But that doesn't explain why people are so sickened by it?
