Oo, oo, childish opportunity not to be missed...Out of interest any idea what to do when an iMac does slow down? Photoshop CS5 is grinding a bit. Would updating to Lion help?
Get a PC!
CS5 is like a bullet on my PC.

He had 2! Fair enough really, and it's not just material, it's all the data on there.

Yes I spose if he had two, seems a little pointless to have two...
In a similar situation - I bought an external drive - copied over the data/photos etc I wanted from the "joint" pc and bought myself a new laptop - fresh start and all that....

Yes. I'm a photographer.Even with 400 gig of photos on it and most in Raw?
It's a bit like the choice of bonking a £50 or a £100 whore. Ultimately they do the same but one looks better and will impress your mates more.
I have two iMacs, (one lost on Friday in divorce settlement) a MacBook Pro, MacBook and a Windows Tablet PC, but the latter is the most versatile, and is brilliant for teaching.

I only bought a second when realised I would lose the first!

I've always thought McAfee slows my laptop down - is there truth in that? What are my alternatives - didn't think windows defender was any good?
Although, curiously, the more expensive one is reluctant to 'flash' for you. It's a bit like the choice of bonking a £50 or a £100 whore.
Really ? I find that rather hard to believe but if you say so. The decent Tablets cost as much as an IPad and I know which I'd prefer. When it comes to Laptops I have to go with a Windows based box, merely as I use it for work. In my line a Mac would be little more than useless because at the end of the day the vast majority still use a PC.
If you only use one at home and have the spare cash you can't beat a Mac. However for an answer and a solution to the vast majority of applications a PC is a cheaper and much more flexible option. You may well be able to run Windows 7 on a Mac but I consider that utterly pointless.

This. As for anti-virus software I'd say Avast!, mainly because it can be made to recite everything pirate-style Oh and it does a good job of AV protection with far less false-positives than when I was using AVG.Although there is often some important software I couldn't run with Apple, it's not the operating system that keeps me on PCs, it's the fact I can build a faster, better quality machine, for a lot less money. I don't care for any brand, I just want high quality at the lowest price.
