Very poor tackle. If Shawcross had used his right foot, he could have definitely poked the ball away. If he had gone for a block tackle with his left, he'd have a good chance of winning the ball. Instead he swung his leg in a reckless manner, liable to cause an injury. Excessive force. Definitely a red card.

If you break someone's leg, you have to take full responsibility for what you did do and what you didn't do in the tackle. Shawcross's lack of intent to break a player's leg is neither here nor there if his lack of intent did not preclude him from actually breaking a player's leg.

He needs to re-examine what he did in that tackle, and work out how to challenge for the ball differently in such a situation. Otherwise his 'apologies' are just worthless crocodile tears.

Spoke with a Stoke season ticket holder yesterday about this an he got quite defensive about it, he is adamant they were not booing Ramsey regarding the Leg incident, it was about his tweets to Chris Colemam urging him not to pick Shawcross for Wales.

No idea if this is true by the way.
