How old is middle-aged?

I argued with my girlfriend last night because she said that anyone 30+ is middle aged. I disagreed (partly because I'm only five years away from being 30). What do other people think?

If average life expectancy is around 70 then 35 is middle aged.

After the death of my cerebral reserve, i'd say mine was about 24.
In general, though, around 33 onwards. Mostly, it must be the collapse of youthful imperative and constant search for conquest and faceless fannies and notches on goalposts and saggings, and the sudden change in yearning and satisfaction. In a male way anyway.

Before I had kids I thought 40 was middle aged...Now its more like 34 as I'm over the hill and gone now....
