I SAW some guy watching a film on one on a London Bridge to Brighton train whilst drinking wine out of a bottle. That is how you travel.

Although I similarly cant see the point of them and that comes from a macbook/iphone user but they're meant to be well good, innit.

Isn't it just a big iphone without the phone???

Seems a bit shit to me, How are you supposed to conceal watching porn with it??

Seen a few people on the train with them, look a bit cumbersome to me for playing games etc.

I guess they're for people who have everything, and need the latest gadget. There's nothing you can do on them that you can't do more conveniently on a laptop or phone. It would be better to watch films on a laptop, and easier to listen to music from a phone/walkmen but they provide a kind of medium between the two which isn't needed unless you literally have nothing better to spend money on.

I had a go on one, and yes, I still don't understand the thing. It does less than my phone.

I do like my gadgets but even I can't see the point of one,
There's a bloke who gets on my train in the morning who has one and he's a complete twat so on that basis i don't want to be associated with him or indeed it.
Phone is better for playing games or using apps and I've got a Kindle as an e book reader so don't need another one

For me my iPad is better for most 'content consumption' (wanky phrase, but it's as creative as I'm going to get) I do.

A month or so back, the scramble in my house was to get to the Macbook Pro. The 'loser' in that race tended to use their iPod Touch. The 2 Windows laptops were rarely touched.

Now, I want the iPad and will happily surrender the Macbook for it.

For web browsing, video watching, games playing and email processing it is the best device in the house.

There are other devices that do more and cost less. But they don't do it as nicely. It's a premium product at a premium price. Money-concious punters will stay away. Elsewhere, 3 million have been sold in less than 3 months and the rate of sales is still increasing not slowing.

We've had 2 families visit us since we had it and they both bought an iPad very shortly after leaving our home.

Oh, and we took our iPad on our last trip to Sussex, leaving the Macbook at home. It was a test: could we get by with the iPad or would we be frustrated and wish we had a full-blown laptop with us.

The iPad passed the test.

In terms of games playing, well anything with windows on it is better, video watching well anything with a larger HDTV attached to it is better, web browsing okay but surely something with a larger screen is more functional. I don't know, it seems that people invent situations where they'd be more useful but nine time out of ten a laptop or computer would be better. In those situation, why would a iPad be more functional? Not having a go at your opinion because it's quite subjecticive (you might love angry birds and hate fps's) but just interested?

I have neither the time nor the inclination for full-on gaming. Casual 'pick up and go' gaming is all I have the capacity for and the iPad delivers that perfectly.

Yes, if I want to watch 'proper' video content I'll use the HDTV in the corner of the lounge but there's a lot of stuff that doesn't arrive there very easily, such as video podcasts. Additionally there are occasions when I'm not at home on the sofa in my lounge but want to watch some mindless pap. A laptop is a horrible form factor to watch TV in bed. And it gets hot. Alternatively the iPad is lovely.

I have one and love it. I am not going to try to convince anyone, best thing would be try check one out at the store. I haven't used my pc since I got my iPad, the instant switch on or off really helps. I have all my photos and music on it and the need for speed game is excellent! Web browsing is superb, the only downside being lack of flash which is a real pain!
