Forgot just about the most famous cover version EVER

Originally by Jim Steinman

I give you Meatloaf Bat out of hell

I know Steinman wrote it, but as far as I was aware, he never recorded/released it himself. Mind you, there are several songs on his "Bad For Good" album which both he and Meat Loaf have done over the years.

With a little help from my Friends. Joe Cocker. Here comes the Sun by Richie Havens. Both Beatles songs but changed considerably.

^ got me thinking about Susanna And The Magical Orchestra's gorgeous version of Jolene.

Couldn't find it on you tube though, but did come across this there.

Is this what you wanted?

Handbags and Gladrags - Rod The Mod (originally by Mike D'Abo)
Tainted Love - Soft Cell (originally by Mrs Bolan)
I Heard It Through The Grapevine - Marvin Gaye (as Gladys Knight and The Pips had already recorded it, although Motown consistently recycled songs in this way) I Heard It Through The Grapevine - Creedence Clearwater Revival (perhaps this is just a great song, though).
Kiss - Tom Jones (yes, really)

The Tide Is High - Atomic Kitten of course trumps them all.

I can't believe nobody's mentioned 'Tom Hark' by Seagulls Ska.

Jim Steinman Recorded it with a bad throat Didn't like it so got Meatloaf in to rerecord it and the rest is history!!!

Easy Star All Stars - Dub Side Of The Moon

Reggae cover of Pink Floyd's Dark Side - you'll either love it or hate it!

How about the Richard Thompson version of "Whoops I did it again". Far better than Britneys although I would concede that she wins in the looks department!

Not so much a cover version but a VERY clever rewrite of lyrics
