Getting so bored of these gay Brighton jibes

Us (Bournemouth) can't really give much grief as we are 4th most gay after London, yourselves and Manchester. There's an HIV hospice in the town, gay area and Pride festivals - which is a good thing I reckon, countering the town's image.

Of course we have the old people stuff. You know, the only town in the country with old people living there. Always get it from fans from middle england shite holes like Peterborough

Shouldn't worry about it mate... When people get too old to live in B'muff they move to Eastbourne... When they get too old for Eastbourne they die in Seaford!

Can't remember which away game it was but the best reply ever to homophobic chantinmg was .....'1-0 to the Nancy Boys'...
Looks like Hudders are signing Joe Lynch.

Why worry about a few gay jibes. I'm sure when we played at Huddersfield a few years back they got the old "Your just a town full of Pakis" from us which is just as wrong.

Doesn't bother me at all. Brighton has always had a large number or gay residents because of the hotels. When I used to work at my Dad's hotel, during school holidays in the 70's he would introduce the waiters to me as "this is pooftah no1, this is pooftah no2, this is pooftah no3 etc ( it was the 70's). They all loved it and were a great bunch of guys. It was fine to have a laugh and a joke and nobody, gay or straight, took offence. A lot, but not all, of the gay jibes aimed at us now are just light hearted, with no real malice intended. Each to their own how to react.

How far back and which year are you talking about? I've been to the Huddersfield away games for quite a few years and not heard that from any of our fans.

Although I'm not offended, it does lack originality in calling Brighton 'gay'. I'd like too see if clubs can come up with something else!

The one thing that does annoy me is every time people call me gay because I'm from Brighton, or other clubs call Brighton FC gay, they say it as if they think they're the first people to have ever said it! It's not comedy genuis..

Yes, but (not suggesting you are amongst them) folk call Palace fans pikeys, Welsh sheep shaggers, Hartlepool fans monkey-hangers, it comes with the territory.

I don't regard being called gay offensive or annoying though, but that's because, as folk know, I am. I can't imagine the trepidation such a slur must be for those who aren't..

Too bloody right.

It's like when Mary Shitehouse and the puritanical mob used to watch TV programmes they knew they'd hate, and then be all 'shocked' by it and go into full rant mode - rather than turn the television off.

I still reckon she had a secret thing for hard-core German porn.

Yikes. I never knew I had ANYTHING in common with our Mary.

i actually found the thread quite amusing, and believe the OP when he says the joke is about the context of the thread title combined with the picture, and think many of the posters did too. maybe i am just bit niave.(not offended...)
