In Falmer Hundred in as recorded in the doomsday book in 1085

The Canons of Malling hold Stanmer from the Archbishop
Before 1066 and now it answered for 20 hides. Land for 20 ploughs, in lordship 4 ploughs.
49 Villagers with 10 smallholders have 26 ploughs.
Woodland at 6 pigs.
Value before 1066, later, and now £15.00
Attached to this manor are 7 sites in Lewes which pay 21 pence a year.

We hold this sacred ground for the King.

In Falmer Hundred in as observed after 2007

The Canons of thoughtful politicians give Falmer to the people. Before 2007 and now it answered for a beaten up medieval church, some hills, rich farmland worked by descendants of the 46 inbred villagers, with farms and ploughs, whose numbers and way of life have little changed over the centuries.

Woodland now gone, there now exists a new shiny steel and concrete delight, dedicated to the lords of Tony & Gus. Attached to this beauty are car parks. Value before 2007 £15.50, later and now Priceless.

We hold this sacred stadia for our children. They are future Albionites."

Has anyone had any communication with the people of Falmer village, e.g. the farmshop owner, in recent weeks? I'd be interested to know their thoughts now.

Just far enough away from LDC
Utter bullshit where are the mentions of the dual carriageways and railways then? Poncy CUNTTTT

I would love to meet Mr Scottish play and shake him warmly by the throat. Sorry hand, I meant hand.

I've responded to the argus and offered Mr McBeth the chance to be escorted, by me, to a match. I have had numerous run ins with him from when he complained about our use of withdean (when he lived in that ward) before he upped sticks to the virgin downland that is ditchling common.

Interesting how he has not taken you up on the offer. This bloke seems determined to be a killjoy. Bet he is fun at parties! Thats if he gets invited of course.

You've never travelled from Falmer to Lewes?

loads of time when i used to live in bexhill but that was a long long long time ago. but that barely consitutes a tunnel does it?

Anyone fancy re-running the arguments that were given more than enough time at the Public Inquiries? Remember how good the transport links to Beeding Cement Works were going to be (a twisty narrow road to a stadium miles from anywhere)? Shoreham Harbour (loads of on-street parking in nearby residential streets)? Toads Hole Valley (a handy walk from Hove Station, or an A27 blocked with queuing traffic)? Sheepcote Valley (only a few minutes walk from Brighton Station, or park where you like, all over Whitehawk)?

Adding the Goldstone into the mix, how would that've fared through the inquiry?

And why not, it's Friday and just perhaps Sussex won't cock-up the game vs Worcs?
Could also examine some of the Falmer "proposals": - "All away supporters will travel by Coach", "400 of the university car parking spaces will be for staff (sshhh Richard)"..........

I have always thought that extending Falmer station is the key (plus some better connections, especially via Lewes) - and anyone who thinks it will be straightforward working out who pays for that is dreaming.

Had an interesting talk with one of the Millwall directors the other day (he knows all about the Brighton travel problems, as obviously we have one of their old boys in our set-up).

Millwall were supposed to be getting a new station which would also have served the football ground as part of the East London extension and part of a wider regeneration around the stadium, but it was shelved in the Tory cuts (the DoT were going to put in £7million, and Lewisham another £3m contingent on the government grant).

This surprised me, as in the Falmer case I had always assumed if it got really busy (let's face it, there are already two universities) the onus would be on Network Rail/Southern to fund improvements, if the passengers needs were not being met. Let's face it, they're raking in the revenue.

However, I can certainly see people attempting to shift the responsibility onto the club for any major work, basically because no one has got any money. The Millwall station might still happen, but they are trying to call it 'Lion's Halt' or something and get the club to fork out that way.

The problem with ANY rail investment is that it has to meet the "business case" criteria.

How much EXTRA income will the spending bring in? In the case of Falmer station, the answer will be "not very much" - for the simple reason that the fares being charged are very low, mainly because journey lengths are short.

For public money to be justified, railway investment has to pass a quite separate test. Will it relieve significant traffic congestion or deliver another significant economic benefit to society? Again, in the case of Falmer, the answer is NO. The A27 doesn't get blocked at peak travel times. Society at large and the economy is not losing money because large numbers of economically valuable vehicle journeys are being frustrated by events occurring at the stadium. Investment in Falmer Station won't deliver any further development near the site, because all nearby sites have already been fully developed.

The only beneficiaries of any investment at Falmer will be football supporters. The investment should be funded by the beneficiaries. The mechanism to achieve this is for the Club to fund the station improvements out of increased income from ticket sales. This could include increased ticket prices.

I vote NO to increased ticket prices. I'd be surprised if the Club wanted to use the increased revenue from expanding the stadium on building longer platforms.

I've been racking my brains trying to think of a suitable pun or quote from MacBeth and failed on all fronts. The best thing I could come up with for this thread is "That Hillman bloke's being a bit impish". Quite frankly it's piss-poor. Consequently, I have nothing to add.

Were they against the stadium then ? I only ask because the manager there was quite happy to take 250 a year off of several people for a parking space.
