I think the intention is to rotate the seamers 3 at a time plus Leach (who can bat a bit!)

Even in relatively recent years, I've seen deeply dispiriting performances from visiting West Indies or Subcontinent teams in early season test matches, against England teams less keen to press the matter than this one.
