where do I start?

He's a big political hero of mine. I guess I'm attracted to the flawed genius and Nixon certainly was.

A working man from a working class background he was a firm believer in laissez faire economics, a man who constantly argued for smaller government with a strong liberal attitude to people , their aspirations and beliefs.

He was the bete noire of the Kennedys and Democrats and all those champagne socialists. He wasn't privileged, he didn't bullshit (well, not often for a politician) but deeply distrusted everyone and everything. The democrats talked about equality but it was Nixon that pushed through real reform for blacks and women voters. He got the US out of Vietnam, was the 1st to really talk about dialogue with China who he correctly predicted as the real 21st century enemy.

Ultimately, he was set up but I hope history will judge the man the last great political US president. A man who thought deeply and really cared about the office and his position and his country's place in the world.

If he were born British he would have been a one-nation Tory in the mould of Iain Macleod (Another hero of mine).

Who's Next is an album by The Who. It was released on July 31, 1971 in the United States and August 25, 1971 in the United Kingdom. A deluxe edition was released on March 25, 2003.

The album cover shows a photograph, taken at Easington Colliery, of the band apparently having just urinated on a large concrete piling protruding from a slag heap. According to photographer Ethan A. Russell, most of the members were unable to urinate, so rainwater was tipped from an empty film cannister to achieve the desired effect. The photo is often seen to be a reference to the monolith discovered on the moon in the film 2001: A Space Odyssey, which had been released only about three years earlier. In 2003, the United States cable television channel VH1 named Who's Next's front cover the 2nd greatest album cover of all time.

An earlier cover design had featured photos of grotesquely obese nude females and has been published elsewhere, but never actually appeared on the album. An alternate cover featured drummer Keith Moon dressed in black lingerie, holding a rope whip, and wearing a brown wig.


For me, it's the best album by my favourite band.

Mine is Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook of Squeeze. A fantastic band and this duo wrote 99% of all of their songs. The words came from Difford, who could write about everyday things that we all go through in a 3 minute song. Tilbrook was the musicman, who uplifted Diffords often very bleak lyrics. Very English, very genius. They are on tour in November. Go and see them. My username isn't hard to understand either.
