That would explain my confusion then - I know NOTHING about Joyce. Is he any good behind the stumps?

I would guess competant.

However as you can only have 15 players there is little point in having a specialist back up keeper.

Before anyone goes on about Prior should be in there as a back up keeper as he can bat, how many decent scores has he got in ODI's? Not many I think you will find.

But the pitches out there are no longer that fast, so it is possible that bowlers with more variation such as Plunkett, Anderson and to an extent Lewis are going to offer more than raw pace, which is pretty much Mahmood's game at the moment.
I heard that the ball zips through but keeps low on WI pitches. I think the pitches are going to suit quicker bowlers rather than seamers.

And no balls and wides, they are his game too, SHITHOUSE.
He can be a bag of shit, true, but he got better towards the end of ODIs did he not?

As Chappers says, it's all about bowling as a unit.

I agree entirely.

He's always opened when playing for England as that's where he bats for us.

I'd be tempted to open with the regulars (Vaughan and Struass) and bring Matty in at 7 behind KP.

Whatever ANYONE says. Strauss does not deserve his place in this squad and I can't believe he's in instead of Loye.

CAN'T BELIEVE IT.

He has had chances for England and some against poor sides such as Zimbabwe and not done much.

However I would think he will be in contention come the summer as they probably brought Nixon in as at the time we were an shower of shite and they did not want any of the younger potential players to be tarnished by it.

This would of course be a World Cup winning XI... Find me a better batting line up, I dare you...

Vaughan
Loye
Bopara
Pietersen
Collingwood
Flintoff
Prior
Mascarenhas
Panesar
Broad
Anderson

How can you possibly drop Ian Bell?

Not at number 3 surely. His s/r is a shade over 70 meaning he scores at just under 4.5 an over which is okay for a number 3. Considering he's like to be playing with Pieterson for most of the time or building the innings I'd say that's fairly respectable. Plus he's becoming moer and more consistent and is an excellent fielder.

This Bopara bloke's been getting better and better the more matches he hasn't played in.

One question - why pick him?

Just seen the line up, heres my thought:

Loye in Strauss Out, Loye looked alright in the Commonwealth whilst Strauss has been pony for ages in One Dayers.

Mahmood dodgy choice but he has everything to prove so this is his stage now, could work in our favour.

Vaughan is a big No No for me, Flintoff turned things around with his captaincy at the end of the Commonwealth and his form with the ball was very good. Vaughan is too big an injury risk as he's played f*** all in 12months, to have him there just 'cos he's captain is abit shit IMO.

Other than that it looks alright, kinda glad Nixon got the nod over Reid/Jones and you gotta take Pietersen if he will be fit.

I would find a place for Strauss. Yes he had a bad time of things in Australia but people were calling for Collingwood to go during the one dayers and look how that turned out. He is a good nudger in the middle order to play around Freddie and KP.

Bopara is picked as he can cover a batsman and a bowler and is a usefull sub fielder to come on from time to time.

I am not sure about Loye. He showed he can't play in that corridor outside off stump, particulary against left arm bowlers, of which there are quite a few these days (Bracken, Franklin, Zaheer Kahn etc).

With what we have at our disposal, I am happy with that squad. But only if KP bats at 3. A top 3 of Vaughan, Joyce and Bell will waste the power plays big time. KP needs to bat at 3 just like all the best batsmen do.
