Carlton Cole into the squad - so that's at least two members of the golden Chelsea youth team of a decade ago called up by England.

Meanwhile, in Greece, another of them wonders where it all went wrong. I very much doubt he'll be able to watch.

IF,and IF, Liverpool win the title, it will be due to Torres. Half fit or not, he's still bloody good.

Really, so Gerrard has had nothing to do with it, along with Carragher etc.

If none of the players withdraw through injury then the selection will probably be:

1. David James

2. Glen Johnson
5. Rio Ferdinand
6. John Terry
3. Ashley Cole

10. Shaun Wright-Phillips
8. Frank Lampard
4. Gareth Barry
7. Ashley Young

11. Gabriel Agbonlahor
9. Emile Heskey

When Theo Walcott is back fit, I'd have him in for Wright-Phillips and have Rooney in for Heskey, but apart from that I can see that being the starting XI for some time.

Edit I forgot Gerrard will automatically get back in, which he shouldn't do
Edit 2: I forgot David James is 38, Joe Hart needs to move in the summer before establishing himself as England's number one I feel

Thank Heavens it's only a friendly.

Jagielka? Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

etc.

Capello's England record so far :

Type P W D L F A GD
Home 4 3 1 0 11 4 +7
Away 6 5 0 1 14 4 +10
Total 10 8 1 1 25 8 +17

Sure some of those games have been against poor quality sides in qualifying (e.g England 5 - 1 Kazakhstan) but also include the 4-1 destruction of Croatia and 2-1 win to Germany, both away games so i think Capello has a pretty darn good idea what he is doing.

Jagielka has been great this season for Everton and deserves to be in there, Capello has said all along, players will be picked on form only and based on that Jagielka fully deserves his call up.

Exactly!!! The point is Capello can make the best of what we have, we beat Germany with our 2nd 11 playing! And this is a friendly coupled with injuries to some more regular international he is giving players who have shown good club form a chance, this should have but did not happen under McClown and Sven so I for one am looking forward to a good game. Fabio is clearly using the friendlies the correct way......at last a manager with a decent brain on him!!!

Carlton Cole is the form striker in the country, he certainly deserves his chance, pleased for the lad!...

Downing again though?... He's done absilutely jack shit all year, luckily Ashley Young is more than twice as good as him.

People complain when the status quo is maintained, and moan when form players are picked. You can't have it both ways

You are so right. Capello cant win whatever he does. If he picks the ssame old players people moan coz he doesnt change it. But if he picks form players who are inexpierienced people also moan. He Knows what hes doing.

I hope Ashley Young gets the starting place he deserves. A realististic contender for Joe Cole's LM slot

Why have we got the second choice City keeper in the squad, a bit pointless if he doesn't even play for his club

If Hart has any sense, he'll run away from City as fast as he can, screaming abuse as he goes.

You obviously know nothing about football. Go and crawl back to your hole you prat.

Decent squad. Heading out to Seville on Tuesday myself. Can't wait.

Carton Cole is not international standard in my opinion,

Godd to see Robert Green, bout time tbh

I agree about Cole, but I suppose with the injuries we have he might as well have a go in the squad. Unless he really improves there's no way he'll be in the squad when Defoe, Rooney, Owen and Walcott are fit again.

We're talking about Wednesday. What happened today was immaterial on that.

Jagielka is not international class, unless Capello has still to raise the quality threshold of an England international higher than donkeys aiming clearances at the Director's Box or John Motson' dead coat.

Exactly the reason England have failed for years due to this attitude.

Pick the form players and players that can play as a team. Look at Heskey at international level !!

Cappello been spot on so far

I'm surprised that Carlton Cole has got in- yes he's playing alright at the moment, but he must be 25-26 now, and it's the first decent spell of his entire career.

Still, Capello seems to have pulled off a few masterstrokes in his time so far, so I guess we'll just have to trust him.

Jagielka is supposed to be Everton's player of the season so far, therefore must have been doing something right. The goalkeepers aren't inspiring though are they? James is 38, Hart has just been dropped by Man City, and Green, while he plays brilliantly in the Premier League most weeks, I'm just not quite convinced is international standard.
