The difference between our bowling mentality and our batting mentality is ridiculous - but I think it has been this way for about as long as I can remember. If we regard the Ashes in 2005 as a blip on the scale then we haven't batted with entertaining aggression in just about FOREVER.

But we did in the two years prior to the Ashes 2005. People talk about that Ashes series as some kind of one-off but between 2003 and 2005 we were the 2nd best team in the world by a country mile. We destroyed West Indies home and away, thrashed New Zealand 3-0 at home, and beat South Africa 2-1 in South Africa.

Chesney knows you know. We are so boring we bowled balls that they kept getting out to and could not score runs off.:rant::rant:

Very nicely posied, I can't believe anyone could say the cricket today was boring.

I think we're in the driving seat now and on course for a famous victory when everyone was writing us off.

Great opportunity tomorrow for the underachieving batsmen to perform at last

If we lose there should be a clear out and Ramps in!

England at 82/1, chasing 294 for victory, will we do it?

Good to see them actually playing some shots today. The wicket looks like there's not as much in it this morning, everything positive so far. I think one or two wickets could still change things though, what with our middle order badly out of form at the moment.

Boring Andrew Strauss reaches his 3rd fifty in row... 118-1.

Isn't Test Match cricket, especially England's way of playing it, just SO DULL?

In reality, the agressive cricket played in 2005 was built around the fact that we could play 5 bowlers, Vaughan was able to put bowlers on for short bursts and importantly we had 3 that could bowl at 90 mph.

Without Flintoff we have to play 6 specialist batsman, as the tail is rather long, which means only 4 bowlers. Also the only bowler that can really get near 90 mph is Anderson and at best he is rather erratic.

Come the South Africa series we need Flintoff back, but if his batting is not quite right, then maybe on current form they need to play Prior as he can bat at 6, allow Flintoff to come in at 7, then Broad, Sidebottom, one of Jones (he is taking wickets for Worcs), Hoggard or Harmison at 10 and Monty at 11.

Hopefully if Rashid continues his progress he will be looked at as he can bat and would certainly do a job at 7.

The other thing is, why bring Ramps back? He has had more than enough chances and like Hick, Crawley and Key he has never produce often enough for England.
