Depends on age and experience, when I newly qualified in my mid 30s I went straight in at the middle of the pay scale rather than the bottom which those straight out of university do.
Working with kids is great, currently running a two week summer school creating Wallace & Gromit type animations, knackering but fun. Unfortunately, the problem I have with the profession is the bureaucracy the paperwork drives you insane. Also the constant chasing of targets seems to be aimed more at the school's performance than the actual child's needs.
