Drat! and double drat!
I sing the proper version, with my chest heaving and heart bursting with pride.
I seem to be the only one belting this out in my area of East Stand Upper as the team comes out, so thought I'd do a quick poll to see how alone I am!
That is not true. The clapping, ner nerring, and singing for the Boro game was the best so far. It is DEFINITELY catching on.
Maybe I know a different version, in the one I know it's "And useful men are we."
And when you go to Sussex...
No. It's definitely in B flat. I have the recordings by the Horsham Borough Band and the Coldstream Guards, and both are most definitely in B flat.I'm pretty sure the version played is in C... I know the top of my comfortable range (as a bass) is the E above middle C. Eb would be ridiculously low... as it would require notes well below comfortable range for all but the lowest voices... my recommended key would be Ab.
I belt it out too, North end of upper East. We're all clapping along but somehow the crowd over takes me and gets ahead, even tho we're all clapping, so it never ends well, very annoying
I'm near the centre which is probably why I haven't heard you! I try to get the clapping around me slower by singing louder but I fear its a losing battle...
Keep with it. We will succeed in the end. I know I am not a lone voice in N1A.I'm near the centre which is probably why I haven't heard you! I try to get the clapping around me slower by singing louder but I fear its a losing battle...
Good old Sausage by the Sea...
We do at the back of WSU G, half a dozen of us. It's definitely catching on. The only thing I think is a shame is that 'stand or fall' isn't mentioned in the first verse and yet it's our biggest banner. Would it be sacrilege to suggest singing half the first verse and then half the second?
Now is the time for marching
So let your hearts be gay
March to the merry bugle
Sounding along our way
And when you go from Sussex
Whoever you may be
You can tell them all that we stand or fall
For Sussex by the sea
