An update on the future of Stockport County, currently still in administration under the watch of Leonard Curtis.

This statement was released by the joint-administrators earlier today regarding the future:

Stockport County Association Football Club Limited (SCFC) entered into administration on 30 April 2009, with the appointment of John Titley and Paul Reeves, Directors at Leonard Curtis, as Joint Administrators.

This statement is an update from the administrators.

On the evening of 22 June 2009, the Joint Administrators gave formal permission for Brighton and Hove Albion FC to begin discussions with SCFC players James Tunnicliffe and Gary Dicker although a transfer of either player has yet to be agreed.

As with the sale of Tommy Rowe in May, this decision has been necessary in order to raise the funds which are required to pay ongoing critical trading costs, including wages.

As previously stated, agreement has been reached in principle with the Jim Melrose consortium. This follows protracted negotiations with several other bidders, who either failed to raise the necessary funding or who simply withdrew their interest. The Melrose deal is still subject to them agreeing terms with the landlord and whilst we understand that the commercial terms of the lease are agreed, we believe that the landlord is seeking certain assurances with regard to the future operation of the business moving forward.

A spokesman for the Melrose consortium said 'We have agreed terms with the Administrators and we have agreed to all the conditions of the lease put in front of us by the landlord, Cheshire Sports, however the process of reaching final agreement with Cheshire Sports is taking so long that we are in danger of directly affecting the financial and playing strength of the club at a critical stage in the pre-season period.

The club is not able to actively market the sale of season tickets or strengthen the squad until Cheshire Sports agree to sign the lease and support the CVA. We remain committed to Stockport County and will continue working to try and secure a future for the club.'

A Stockport fan on one of their messageboards has said that Tunnicliffe is the best young centre half they have had for years and has said he should not be allowed to leave for less than 500k.

Dicker has expressed a desire to move down to Brighton. I cant see any other club being interested to be honest at this stage.

Mental. The last thing on their minds is signing up one of the top players in the division or even anybody! Erm wages? When you're in administration you can forget about making a signing!

Fair enough. I was just trying to give the poor lad a helping hand in his quest to move away from our South Coast shit-hole innit.

Hopefully we can get them both signed up by the weekend and the rest of the county players can get paid..........what a sad state of affairs. Hard to see even when the takeover is complete that they can afford to have Gannon back (he had multiple income streams from the club as I remember and was one of the best paid in league 1). Having said that - with so little time and such limited resources can they afford to bring in anyone else.

Why are we buying so many Stockport players could it be in case RS fails and we go back for Jim Gannon? or RS director of football instead of Hinshlewood and Gannon team manager.

Cant say i know much about him, but by the sounds of it he looks like he could be a very good signing. Slightly intrigued as to who would be our first chouce centre backs with virgo and elphick, cant see any of them wanting to be second choice. Stockport fans rate him, and still very young, think i saw somewhere he had a trial with liverpool and they almost bid 750k for him as a 16 year old.
As for stockport, hope they get sorted, great support last day of the season.
