I felt a bit sick watching that, no not because Cataldo took the stage win off De Gendt ( well done to Cataldo :clap2: ), but because those gradients were just fecking stupid! I don't know how clean any of this lot are, but whoever isn't, can you really blame them? :(

As much as that was great entertainment it somehow just felt wrong. No wonder French cyclists in the early days of Le Tour felt like the working classes being exploited by the race organisers.

That was insane today! Sprinters walking over the line with sick all over their shoes anyone ? :nono:

Could anyone advise me on giving my bike a good service, possible with a bit of a parts overhaul?

I have a Trek S300 (hybrid with Shimano Nexus 7 speed hub).

It's a decent enough bike and served me well, but probably needs new chain, new crank & parts (which occasionally clicks - probably a bearing), new flywheel. I was going to take it into Syd's Bikes on Portland Road, is this a safe bet or any other local advice?

I'd like to regain some much needed confidence in it and start up the cycling as a leisure activity rather than just getting around on it like I do now. If I stick at it and prove to myself it's not just a passing phase, then I might start to justify an investment in a decent road bike!

Many thanks, and apologies for being the newbie all over this thread!

There is an element of wrong, when you see the specialists can't do it.

But it's definitely something that has to happen every now and again.
It's a great juxtaposition with this years tour.

Wiggo must be pi$$ing himself laughing.

I'll leave it to the locals to tell you the who's who of Brighton bike shops.
It may well be a quality bike that has served you well.
I'm sure it's probably a couple of simple things, that will have you back. coasting along on a cloud.
But with anything, don't get sucked in shelling out good money, when the Friday Ad can get you back on the road for say £50.

As you know I've been really excited about this Vuelta and it certainly hasn't disappointed. The GC battle is simple brilliant to watch. But seeing riders barely able to pedal in those last few hundred meters was a bit sad for me somehow. I'll recover in a bit I suppose and be saying what a great Grand Tour this has been so far, but something felt very strange inside me there, and no it's not the first brutal mtf I've ever seen, just one that's somehow taken it to another level.

It's because they keep coming, and seem to be worse.
I gave a colleague a heads up for the stage with the brutal end.
He thought I was wrong, counting down the k's, on flat roads, sea to the left, 5...4...3...bam 30%.

Instead of us pouring over the race guide ear marking the stage in 10 days time, this has been relentless and hard hard riding.

But it would have been a non-event if J-Rod had a 5 - 10 mins lead after the first week.

Thanks, it is all too easy to get seduced by shiny new bikes...

For anyone else with a bit of advice, this is the beast in question. i_2012090317280426.jpg

I know I know, it's a little beyond oiling now though. I've put off getting a new one as I know the whole chain set probably needs changing at the same time.
A chain is never beyond oiling.
If it is, you've 'wasted' a little oil, if it isn't you've saved yourself money.

Blimey 1066 joint first overall for the stage! Time to make a push for the GC, shame you can't win prizes without paying for the premium.

I thought I'd done ok today but I'm scrabbling for a podium place cranky.

You can win stage prizes without being premium but alas no stage prizes anyway for Vuelta for some reason. Besides, there were 8 of us tied for first place, so if they'd shared the prize we'd probably have ended up with a puncture kit each or something

Still it's an improvement on my previous best score of 2nd for a stage. Hopefully one of us here will take a stage win one of these days.

I was thinking about a stage win. I've got 5 transfers for the rest day and if I was going to play safe for the overall, I wouldn't use any of them. If, however, I go a bit crazy and use a load I might get a stage win.

Trouble we have with transfers is that it's another hill top finish after the rest day, although it might favour a break again. I'll have 6 transfers for that as I didn't use any today, but I'm not sure it'll pay to use any of them as it goes. A sprint stage after the rest day would have been better. As it is you can only take a maximum of 4 transfers into that sprint stage, when 6 would have been well handy.

That is surprising, and a real shame. Especially as Froome is up for selection and yet that poor lad is currently cooked.

Don't think Brad will have much form by then, I'm sure he's been doing his customary post-success blowout!

Froome will be ruined by then. Also not sure cav will ride as the course will not suit. It's the exact same course as the 98 worlds with repeated climbs up the cauberg and another tough drag round the back.
