according to some

you need to have been to the Goldstone and seen Wardy play
been a regular at Gillingham
season ticket holder at Withdean
attended the Hereford game
saw Nelson score at Brentford
luzzed something at opposing fans during the 80`s

if you cant tick all those boxes you are a JCL

ps the overlords that make these rules are sitting around the dining table and discussing how the Magna Carta will be impacting on their day to day life.

i hope that answers your question

are you single?

- - - Updated - - -

in conclusion everyone is welcome

do you have a sister?

I started following the Albion when I met my partner (so no not single) this was during the withdean years with Falmer in sight. So I wasn't around for the Goldstone but I have done my homework on the club and I am well aware of the legend that is Peter Ward.
not sure what a JCL is though ?

A JCL is a Johnny Come Lately. It's someone who started watching the Albion after they left the County Ground.

That's a bit harsh, I was born in Brighton and spent the first 25 years of my life there but my job took me away. I still consider myself a keen Albion fan having worked at the Goldstone, seen matches at Withdean, numerous away grounds and the Amex.

Just ignore him.

Traditionally football is about place so being from Brighton is a good reason to support Brighton. Supporting a team just because you like their left-wing politics does makes you a cunt though.

I agree with that. I lived in Brighton when I started supporting them. Doesnt mean if you didnt live there you cant support them but I really get irate in Turkey as everyone from ANYWHERE supports the three Istanbul teams.

A Gal is another name for a girl as in (me and my Gal ) song and the phrase 'what a Gal' I added the extra L to have the same letters as seagull .... I thought it was quite good and never thought it would need such an explanation

Just ignore them. They are silly sausages lol x

Anyone who thinks that hating Palace is part of the criteria... is a JCL.

Unless they personally remember the first contre temps in the 1970's

With apologies to Kipling.

IF you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on Barnes,
If you can trust Gus when some men doubt him,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait in the queue for Dick's and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about what's in the Pie box,
Or being hated by away fans, yet don't give way to hating,
And enjoy another sideways pass, an El Abd tap on head:

If you can dream - and enjoy those dreams when they come true;
If you can think you can guess Gus's line-up - and not once get it right, like Mr Naylor;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two Fergie-time impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the Palace sing
And drown them out, those knaves are now't but fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
FFS Murray you'll soon be a worn-out tool:

If you can make one season of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of play-off pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And believe we can forget about our loss;
If you can force Vicente's nerve and sinew
To serve us once or twice throughout the year,
And so hold on for warmer weather
Except Will Buckley's hammeys stretched too taut

If you can sing with crowds and keep your virtue,
' Or feint with Kaz - nor lose the common touch,
if neither foes nor dodgy refs can hurt you,
If all fans count with you, without leaving early for the bus;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Prem and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Fan, my son!

It is your choice, it is how you feel, for me, it's feeling great after a win and sad after a loss, dreaming about winning trophys, getting exited about who you will get in the FA cup draw!

It's how you feel

I always find the criteria of supporting a team bloody ridiculous.

If you bumped into someone in Manchester who said "I support Brighton and I have no family ties to there" You wouldn't kick off saying "You can't support Brighton".

However the other way round seems frowned upon.

I also follow Arsenal and have done since I was 6 (Basically everyone in my class supported Man Utd so I wanted to be 'different' and support Arsenal (who finished 11th that season). Yes it was a VERY weak reason to START supporting them, but I can't just turn it off now. If I could then surely that would prove I was never a fan all along? I LOVE brighton to pieces and have had my ST for 12 years but I can't just STOP supporting Arsenal. People seem to claim "You can't support two teams". Apparently I can defy logic....

ps - the other weekend was horrible and I didn't enjoy it at all but, of course, I had to support Brighton. Arsenal going through just softened the blow.
