Training is a one off thing (per member of staff). Wages are only a factor if you don't break even, which mabye they didn't judging by that answer. The flipside to saving wages by not opening is that you are wasting a days rent money which you have to pay weather you open or not. It's all swings and roundabouts I suppose, as long as they say that it's not financially viable, that's all that matters

To be honest that is no money whatsoever - newcomers in wallis are paid roughly 4 pounds an hour, training takes 2 hours = £8. Managers dont work on Sundays, and lesser paid staff are - our sunday supervisor gets paid about 6 an hour. Most of the inbetweeners are around £5 an hour.

If 4 people plus one supervisor worked all day (6 hours on sunday 11-6), it'd cost about £156 for staffing for the day

And how much does Wallis make on a Sunday? £7000 - That's why it's cost effective to have shops running on Sundays.

You've got to remember, that although it may not be "ethical" to work on Sundays, it is a world of demand and supply. If you think about the Wallis example, that's £7000 worth of cash to lose if it's not open!!! It may not be fair or right, but that's life!!!
