Club shop complaint

Just to add some balance to the force.
Why is the club shop closed on sundays? I was in town yesterday and thought i'd pop in and get the new home kit, only to find that the shop is closed on sundays. Surely it's bad for business not to be open on one of the busiest days of the week.

It's for religious reasons.

It closes every Sunday religiously.

Be fair. Do you expect the poor buggers to work 7 days a week. ? I wouldn't. :D

You get weekend staff then, or Sunday staff. I don't get a chance to go to the shop as I work and I'm sure I'm not the only one. They should have a permanent site in Churchill Square, even if it's just a stall (and yeah, yeah, I know about the rent etc etc but they didn't even manage to have one at Christmas last year unlike the year before...what a disgrace!!)

All shops should be closed on Sundays and on Bank Holidays.

I am at least grateful for the fact that the Government resisted pressure from large chains to extend the Sunday opening laws beyond the current 6-hour limit.

But WHY?

I cannot see any sense or reason in that arguement personally.

Why?

I get double pay on bank holidays, and could only work on sundays when at college / football

Went in there on Saturday morning to buy my son a new home kit and they were very friendly and helpful.

That's just daft. It's crazy that shops are forced to close at 4pm on Sundays. Indicative of this country. Took the powers that be far too long to scrap the outdated licensing laws. Next up the insane Sunday trading laws.

OK, allow me to rephrase, since I didn't really make my point accurately.

Speaking as someone who works in shops myself, and who does work on Sundays occasionally, I just can't see the harm in having one day completely work-free for everyone (doesn't even really have to be Sunday).

What can you buy on a Sunday that is so vital to your existence that you couldn't wait 24 hours for? When you see the sad acts queuing outside the place where I work on a Sunday morning just for the sake of buying a chocolate bar, it brings home the point that the whole country (and world) is vastly over-commercialised, and I can't see how a 24 hour break from that each week would harm anyone.

PS: Christmas Eve falls on a Sunday this year, and I look forward to shutting the shop doors at 4:30 pm and actually being able to enjoy some of Christmas Eve with my family rather than having to hang around until about 7pm to help out any sad bastard who has left it to the last minute to buy crackers. Again.

I also look forward to telling my employer where to stick it when they ask if I'm available for longer than my contracted hours on that (because you can bet dollars to doughnuts that the Government will grant an exemption from Sunday trading laws on that day under pressure from companies interested in their seasonal bank balances).

I guess your opinion on the matter would be largely dictated on your point-of-view of the situation though.

What about people who work Saturdays and throughout the week? What about people who only have Sundays to go shopping? The 24 hour shops like Asda etc close at 10pm on a Saturday night, why can't they open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week straight through?

Still, it's an improvement when all shops shut at 5pm with half day closing on Wednesdays.

Where I live, we're about the only shop in town which doesn't still close at lunchtime on a Wednesday.

I think Sunday opening is essential. Smaller shops are struggling as it is and another day would not go amiss, as long as they covered their costs. I get in at work at about 8am and leave at 5.30 pm or later, more often than not. I play cricket on saturdays which usually takes up most of the day, so I have very limited shopping time.

Of course there must be protection of employees so they are not forced to work sundays or every sunday, but I think it would be highly beneficial for most people.

Turienzo & Molango could open every week!!

Turi's gone to Italy now, I believe, and Molango won't be available on Sundays after he gets his first-team place back and wears himself out scoring hat-tricks on Saturday afternoons.

Should I be on the tablets again? :lolol: :lolol:

Somewhere over there...
If i wasnt already working on a Sunday, I would work there.

They have a couple of empty shops in Churchill Square on the bottom floor near Game (Swaznegger(sp) and the bigger one next to Debenhams)

Surely it would bring more custom (which means more money) if it was there rather than Church Road and more space for stuff.

Yes rent would be high BUT more buisness will compensate for that.
