There probably was a bloke called Jesus born at some point around that time. However a) the claim he was the son of God was made up because b) the chances of God existing are slim to none

Not a new debate. I remember an episode of Till Death Us Do Part in the early 1970s. Alf Garnett's son-in-law, the 'scouse git', (who was a left-wing atheist), was going on about how Christmas had become over-commercialised and how the true meaning had been lost and no one mentioned religion any more. Garnet replied, "Well, if you're going to start bringing religion into Christmas ..."

To be fair, whilst I agree with you it just our opinion as we have no tangible proof that Jesus Christ wasn't born in December all those years ago or that there isn't a God, it's just our logic says so.

People are entitled to believe what they want as long as it's legal and not bothering me and frankly whilst I find Christmas a celebration of consumerism and little else that just my opinion after all.

anyway as I said, it's a point of view, you think that evolution is the way forward, I lean more to the side of faith. With my rational hat on, I think evolution is pretty silly - strange eh!?

I'm trying to understand why all of the 'great religious experiences' occurred when there was nothing available to record them? We've not had so much as a burning bush for over 2000 years. Be nice if there was one we could all see on TV-might be a few more believers then...

I am chilled, I like a good discussion about religion and see no reason why it should be heated or bound in aggression.

Quite happy to discuss the subject and I have no angst against those with strong faith at all, in fact i am interested to know what gives them that strong faith and belief in God.I attended a Roman Catholic school but now consider myself an Athiest so have a real interest in the topic.
