Ta. It's in an Inspector Morse book that the missus is reading, and she kept saying the answer is 'Devalkyries', but one that's got 11 letters, and two, it didn't make sense.

Satan, oscillate my metallic sonatas is an example of what?

That Sir, is a rather marvellous pallindrome.

and whats in the brackets refers to the amount of letters, the clue is not just whats in the brackets.

Three women have just eaten lunch in a restaurant and the bill comes to £30, they each pay £10 to the waiter who takes it back to the till. However the manager of the restaurant knows one of the women so he offers them a £5 discount. The waiter goes back to the table and gives each of the three women £1 back. This means they have each paid £9 which = 27 and the waiter has 2 pound coins left which equals £29. What has happened to the missing £1 coin as 3 9's equal 27.

I think that came out right, can't be arsed to check it though

if he has given them £1 each back, then they have paid £27 and are still entitled to the other £2 that the waiter has in his hand. therefore there is no missing coin, and no riddle!!

Here's two easy cricket ones for you clever arses...
1) If every batsman is out first ball in an innings, what number is the not out batsman ?
2) After two balls of an innings, the score is eight for no wicket and both batsman have faced one ball each. How come ?

try this,
a jet black dog is running in the middle of a single track road , there are no street lights and no full moon a car is travelling towards the dog at 50mph and the dog is running towards the car at 15mph , the lights on the car are not working , the impact should be around 65mph , so why does the car avoid the dog
