draw a 5 point star on your page. plant a tree at each of the 5 points, and plant a tree at each of the 5 intersections, and you have 5 rows of 4.

Ok, here is one:

Imagine you are in a room with 3 switches. In an adjacent room there are 3 bulbs, each switch belongs to one bulb. All are off at the moment. It is impossible to see from one room to another. No help from anybody else is allowed. How can you find out which switch belongs to which bulb, if you may enter the room with the bulbs only once?

what if you turned one on fully, and another one half on (so it flickers), then when you go through you don't even need to risk burning your hand by touching them.

Yup. Did you figure it out? I didn't when I was first shown it, but as with all good riddles I thought "Oh, of course!" when I was told the answer.
