IF the Lib Dems do go for a deal with the Tories it strikes me as an incredibly risky thing for them to do. They may get a commisison on electoral reform but won't get PR. It may very well split the party and Labour supporters who voted tactically in this and previous polls to keep the Tories out, will never vote for them again.

Never. Not since 1945 anyway.

LAbour didn't win 50% of the votes in 1945 either - it got 48.5% of the vote.

The biggest share of the vote was the Tories in 1955 when they got 49.7%

EDIT: Just checked. Parties won more than 50% in 1900, 1931 and 1935

The latter two are misleading as that's when we had a National Government (ie coalition)

Clegg's response ... he climbs into his car and goes shopping.

When the going gets tough, & all that. :lolol:

I'd have thought the Lib-Dems would have more in common with New Labour quite frankly, but it certainly looks like Clegg's likely to get into bed with you know who now. God, what a hideous thought. That said, it's not quite as unpalatable as just hearing William Sodding Hague laxing wyrical over Diddy Dave's oh-so-generous offer to Clegg's mob. How I loath that Yorkshire whine & that 'orrible up & down drone thing he does. Now I've got that image of 'is nibs addressing the Tory Conference in his smarmy little Thatch' Kid phase! Absolute nightmare. :annoyed:
