Not really sure about this to be honest. Sure, he's a good player, but I don't think he's THAT good that we couldn't have replaced him. I'm not going to jump back into bed with him just because he's Spanish and has long hair. He had a lot of time to sign a contract with us and he didn't. I think there may be more in the potential of the injury than we know.

I'd love to see your reaction if Kuipers had been in the same position.

Because you'd have made excuses for him if he'd been in that situation, that's all

Er......actually he didnt have a lot of time to sign a contract .. Gus only gave him quite a short time to make a decision . Calde wanted to see if there were any other offers around ! You would have done the same . If anything, i think that Gus was maybe a little headstrong in his original thoughts , and is learning about managerial decisions and what goes on in contract talks etc !!!
Calde has said in his interview on Seagulls Player that the specialist is very happy and he is ready for pre season .
BTW..i think your wrong . He is THAT good at this level, and will get better!

I don't doubt that he's a good player. In fact, I agree, he's a very good player at this level. But he's only a right-back and there are tonnes of them around. It's not like he's a 25 goal striker it may be worth losing your morals for.

Well you can't have been following the Albion for long then.In all the years i have supported them i haven't seen a better right back in an Albion shirt.
Peter Smith is the only other one i know who made a big impact but then faded badly.
As for tons of right backs around i doubt it.Not for free with flair and the energy of Calderon.

I'm not knocking his football! I agree he's probably the best right-back I've seen play for us too, and he's MILES better than Peter Smith!

I'm just wondering what sort of message it sends out that Gus can fly off the handle and "guarantee" us we won't be seeing Calderon again, only to hand him a THREE YEAR contract a few weeks later. I love the unpredictability of Gus, but if he genuinely thought he'd been f***ed over he shouldn't have taken him back. However, as someone above suggests, maybe Gus just realised he had been too rash and short-tempered and that Calderon hadn't done much wrong, in which case I welcome him back wholeheartedly.

Maybe Gus was rash like you say but i reckon Gus knew he would find it very difficult to replace a player like Calderon for nothing.I'm sure Poyet would rather spend money elsewhere where it is needed, like upfront etc.
If Gus was managing a much bigger club with better resources then he would have probably told him to do one.
I don't like what Calderon has done but hes here now and we are a much better team for it.

I also believe Gus will spend about 1 million in the summer and a sizeable chunk of that will go on a new striker. Then we need a quality midfielder and center back.I'm sure he doesn't want to be spending good money on full backs.
So far we have brought in Painter and Inigo both for free. Both are brilliant free signings. The only cash signing he has made in the jan window has turned out shit.Is the jury still slightly out on him with spending money?

Played right into Gus' hands and if the reason for not joining the Saint's was based on the medical then no one will touch him, wouldn't be surprised if as a result Bloom tries to give him a pay cut.:smokin:
You can't really blame him for being interested in the transfer, it's a short career and if poeple are promising big bucks then that's it.
As he almost found out, a career shortening injury maybe just around the corner.
I am glad he is still a seagull and believe he will try his best this season.

Didn't he just?!?! I have never known a player to go as spectacularly downhill has he did. A bit like Whing, only worse. Peter Smith, player of the season. I remember the north stand chanting "we all dream of a team of Peter Smiths!" Only for him to turn out to dreadful in subsequent seasons!
