If a moderator thinks that a thread is a complete waste of time, could he/she not just remove the thread and pm the thread starter explaining his/her reasons for doing so?

I feel that if any other poster had started that thread then the banning decision would not have been administered. The moderator in question shouldn't have threatened the poster in the first place because he was then left with no option but to carry out his threat. Both parties have been very childish in the extreme but I hope the moderator in question has learned a valuable lesson.

An apology and reinstatement should sort out this mess IMHO!

Seems to be a mess to me.. This is dividing opinions which is unnecessary. If the petty banning hadn't happened in the first place, the thread just simply removed and a warning issued, Surely that would have been a better way to have dealt with this situation?

Spot on. His threads are tedious and rarely contain anything interesting, which is no different from the Palace trolls who come on here on a regular basis.

In the dull ways of many an other football forum boards but this is NSC we all play a part in moderating to a degree and we can moderate our behaviour as well,too much of one thing or another can get tedious..
