In the same way Charlton are a Kent club, not really an inner city club

blimey you should go drinking in Woolwich or Plumstead one night. Darling Buds of May it isnt.

The Charlton/Kent thing is the same as the rest of the diaspora, they have always been a dockland club, they just have not mythologised it as much as the others. It's the premier league status and happy clappy stuff they have done that to.

Why have Palace fans bent over backwards to ensure that Chortleton don't get any ideas about them being a true rival. Let's look at the facts:

The clubs have played in the same division most seasons over the past 20 years
They have had similar gates over the past 10 years
Charlton sent Palace down with an equaliser 8 mins from time a few years back.

We just don't really measure up really do we?
Bumbled along in divs 3 & 4 for 20 years
Gates now 6,000 - about a third of Charlton/Palace in the last ten years
We play for the first time in about 15 seasons, take 6,500 - and lose 5-0.

I'm amazed Palace haven't lost interest in us. Grateful though, because it's hard when local teams don't give a toss about you. Ask Charlton fans.

I've just been reading this old thread. The history is a bit before my time, but why isn't Mullery held up as a club hero by us? I know he had a brief stint at Palace, but he's certainly key to the rivalry?

Sorry if I'm being a bit thick!
