Glancing through the 'sake thread got me wondering just how many players have worn the stripes & got nothing but abuse, whether justifed (if that's possible) or not.

And has anyone other than Tank made a lazarus type recovery.

Here's a couple to be going on with:-

Tony Towner (been mentioned but just before my time)
Kevin Bremner
David Lee

Peckham
John Crumplin used to be a target until he turned it round
Gary Chivers also had the same problem for a while.
Mark Farrington but well deserved
Oatway and Paul Rogers more recently.

I don't remember Tony Towner as anything but a complete local hero.

Does anyone else remember him getting abuse?

He was one of my choices for Heroes and Winners.

Great player for the Albion.

You'll need to take that up with NMH on Citrus' 'sake thread.

Terry Connor struggled to begin with, I seem to remember. But he overcame it with sheer hard work. A real star.

I don't remember K.Bremner getting much stick. Him and Nelson had quite a reasonable partnership I thought although not in the same class as Small / Bryne that followed them.

I could never understand the abuse Rogers took. He was class, chipped in with the odd goal and often looked far better than anyone around him.

Totally agree and we haven't had a decent replacement since.

Seem to recall Bremner getting eeaw chants dirceted at him from Albion fans at Portsmouth. Even McCammon hasn't had it that bad has he??

I remember when Warren Aspinall actually managed to get round someone at the Withdean and then, for no apparent reason, fell over.
