Who would you give that title to?

China or India? 1 billion people each, and one WC qualify between them?
Mexico? Massive population (200m?) and a proper football infrastructure, yet *never* do anything.

Any other nominations?

England - Due to the amount of players who consistently play at the very top level of club football.

In World Cup parlance, has to be Spain doesn't it, given what they have done at club level over the years.

for different reasons:-

Mexico: Football mad, MASSIVE, easy qualification route, but NEVER do ANYTHING

Nigeria: Again, football mad, MASSIVE, constant line of decent players coming through, yet, olympics aside, have recently failed to make an impression in the world cup and the AFRO nations...should be africa's dominant team but aren't

China/India: Same reason for both- SURELY THERE MUST BE 11 GOOD FOOTBALLERS OUT OF A BILLION PEOPLE?!

Russia: Biggest country in Europe, yet often fail to even QUALIFY for stuff let alone make an impact in tournaments

Egypt: How do they constantly fail to qualify for World cup's when they're clearly the best team in Africa?!

Netherlands/England/Portugal: Despite constantly producing world class players and endless amounts of "golden generations" and having players playing for the best club sides in the world, these 3 have won 1 world cup and 1 european championship between them

the jocks - every single one of them in the country apparently knows everything there f***ing is to know about football but they still get knocked out in qualifiers by people who eat seabirds, and when they do get to the finals, by people who eat people.

Eh? They've reached two WC finals, they won Euro 88, and have been semi-finalists 3 times!

Not bad for a population of 13m surely?

But it's not about population: that population has produced an unending stream of some of the most brilliant footballers who've ever played the game. They've produced coaches who have pretty much reinvented the game's tactics from scratch.

And yet, they've cleverly managed to avoid winning the world cup. Because - generation after generation after generation - they feature a group of arrogant individualists who will always put self above team; a fatal mistake. (And it's quite funny).

I think it has to be Mexico. 110 million of them, footbal mad country. Never past the quarter finals and never past the second round outside of Mexico.

India can't be considered as footbal is nowhere near their favourite sport. China have only recently started taking the game seriously too so that rules them out.

England and Spain have not done as well as they could have, but I think we are confusing high paid famous players with actual talent. Also in both England and Spain club football is considered more important than international football, this has a major impact on their results.

ENGLAND, surely? You can't look at China / India / Mexico as they simply don't have the infrastructure or resources to make it happen. As for England, best league in the world apparently but hey, never really been close apart from the Gazza tournament and when we won at home after a dodgy decision.....

This. Much better put than I could have managed.

You utter moron. Start spouting at us (when more people live in London than do in our entire country) when you have actually won something.

You know? WON. You are everything that is contemptous about English national football fans. All the money, infrastructure, golden generations, hype, this time more than any other time.....

You're not going to find a way this time or any other time in the near future.

Becuase under pressure, when it counts regardless of your manager's qualities you cannot beat ordinary teams.

It's like charging people £500 a night to stay at a shit little B&B. Sounds impressive but when you get there it's a f***ing great disappointment.

Berk.

USA

They could dominate world football

Except it's a minority sport. All the best athletes try about 5 other sports (American Football, Basketball, Baseball, Ice Hockey, Athletics) before they give Association Football a crack.

A bit like when I see one of the "X Games" fellas, my immediate thought was, "I bet your were shite at football". So, Americans must look at "soccer" as being full of guys who were shite at everything else.
