How did Peter Ward get in there as he signed for us and made his name with us and only came back on loan in the twilight of his career in England, as hopefully Bobby Zamora will.

Err.....how about this, our only ever victory against Manchester United

or this, the goal that set us on the road to Wembley, BOTH scored whilst he was on loan

Sorry El Presidente I cant get those pictures to come up and Yes he did score a couple of goals whilst on loan but his best time with us was after we had signed him from Burton. When he came back it was for nostalgia and the hope he could reproduce the form he showed in his earlier days.

My fault BG for some reason I can't embed them.

In Wardy's first spell for us he was not very prolific in the top flight (I know this is a sacrilegious thing to say!) but those two goals were very iconic IMO.

Dont get me wrong I think Wardy was great and probably one of our best ever players and a decent chap to boot but do not think that he qualifies as one of our best loan signings in comparison to Sidwell Keown and Zamora etc.

Paul Dickov for me. Never forget the anger and astonishment, then the applaus he recieved when he got substituded in his last game at the goldstone. What a loan signing that was.

Although they weren't technically the best and their achievements were relatively modest when you consider Zamora et al but I'd like to give a hat tip to Trevor Benjamin and Chris Iwelumo - both of whom picked up the slack when Leon Knight forgot where the goal was deep into the 2003/04 season.

I think Big Chris also won us the penalty against Britsol City (where Knight thankfully remembered how to score again).

Also, Ashley Neal - great loan signing in the Archer era. Really gave us a barometer by which to judge how crap a player is.

Brian Bromley was great when he was on loan, but not so good when we signed him permanently.

Cotterill ( sp?)

He was absolutely class when he came on loan.

Keown was probably the best player we have had on loan ( certainly his future career would have suggested)

Martin Keown. Season long loan, absolute class.

true
and may I go back even further one Brian Deare from West Ham always stands out in my feeble memory and I'm sure he scored 4 goals in one game but I may stand corrected
